Help the homeless..........Don't hunt them. - By: H. Baker, 23 Feb 2008
Six wealthy men, bored with the usual prey, have started hunting humans. Homeless men with no families to start asking questions. Ice T happens to be just such a homeless man and, needing money, agrees to guide the group of men on a trip in the forest. It soon becomes clear that they want to use him for something else.......

The big draw of 'Surviving The Game' is the cast. Anyone familiar with late 80s/early 90s action movies will recognise the talent on offer. Rutger Hauer (Nighthawks, The Hitcher), Charles S Dutton (Alien 3), John C McGinley (On Deadly Ground, Point Break), F Murray Abraham (Last Action Hero, By The Sword), Ice T (Trespass, Ricochet) & the always amazing Gary Busey (Under Siege, Point Break, The Drop Zone) together in one movie is bound to be great right? Well. Sort of.

The film has moments of brilliance scattered throughout. Gary Busey's tale of how he came to get the scar on his face is a highlight. Likewise some of the action on offer, but overalll it's a bit of a wasted opportunity. Everyone looks like they're having a good time & the movie is solidly entertaining, but you can't help but be annoyed because it could've been so much better. One of the biggest downfallls is that the bad guys are much more entertaining & charismatic than Ice T. He is supposed to be the character we root for, but he's bitter & humourless. I know he's homeless & he's had a tough life, but it breaks a basic scriptwriting rule. Your main character shouldn't be less interesting than the supporting ones. Another good thing the film has going for it is the location in the forests so it is a mistake to end the film back in the city with a quite frankly rubbish climax.

All that being said it's still an entertaining hour & a half. You could do a lot worse than watch the Ice man kill a group of character actors in various & inventive ways. Enjoy it but don't expect a classic.

THE DVD: Widescreen(1.78:1). The picture & sound quality are fine. Unfortunately no extras.
SURVIVING JUST ABOUT - By: Jason Thorne, 22 Jun 2007
I bought this film because of the review below thinking we were in for a hidden gem of a film. Being honest I was a little disappointed, it had the making of the Classic Rambo but it fell short. The cast, location, storyline & camera work were alll there it just lacked that bite that keeps you interested. The chase & moderate action just about kept this a watchable film the start & end of the film were not good. I will sat Gary Busey took the honours in the acting for the short part he played.
The running man out in the wild! - By: , 12 Sep 2000
In a nut-shell rutger Hauer seeks out Ice T to be the latest in a long line of hunted prey. Offering Ice T money, food & a hair cut, he takes T up to his ranch deep in the forest. There he & some of his rich colleagues set T free & track him down. Picking them off one by one T manages to survive. Hauer eventuallly gives up & returns to the city closely followed by the ice man. Now ice T uses his street knowledge to carry out his revenge. Well worth a look
