One of the best sci-fi films of all time! - By: Moka, 07 Aug 2007
For the uninitiated Anime may seem like a gratuitous excercise in image over substance, especiallly with the particularly low standards of some of the newer movies. There are, however, a large number of thought-proving & moving pieces amongst them, this beautifully crafted tale being one of them.

I am somewhat of a sci-fi officianado when it comes to literature & film, & I have been a fan of the more tasteful Anime since way back in the early 90s when the only Anime to be seen on UK soil was Akira. I am ashamed to say that in the hey-day when I thought I had seen everything worth seeing from the 80s & 90s Anime catalogue, I happened by chance across this diamond in the rough.

The plot is an extremely complex but riveting series of twists & turns, with ingenius touches illuminating the incredible journey of one man (named 'Wataru' which is literallly Japanese for a person who travels from place to place) searching for human meaning amidst a world of chaos & confusion. It begins where, for some unknown reason, the world has been swept by a wind that has taken away peoples memories, reducing them to pure instinct-driven machines. The hero of the story, Wataru, happens upon a warn-torn military base in which he encounters a smalll boy in a wheel-chair confronted by a mutated human with telekenetic abilities to move & destroy object with his mind. After rescuing the smalll boy he learns that the boy has retained his memory through covernment experiments to improve the human memory by way of implants in his brain, much like the limitless storage capabilities of computers. The boy teaches Wataru only the good things about humanity & sends him on a mission across the world to spread his knowledge with others & to find out what happened to the cataclysmic earth. There are so many ingenius plot twists along the way, such as an encounter with two people living multiple lives as occupants of a self-contained city run by a super-computer (possibly inspired by Aurthur C. Clarke's novel 'A City & the Stars'), & chance encounters with alien beings, but that would be giving too much away.

This film has everything that defines a classic, a complex, thought-provoking plot, well choreographed action sequences, & original ideas & touches that keep you compelled from start to finish. This rates alongside Blade Runner & Akira as one of the greatest works of science fiction. I IMPLORE you to do yourself a favour, enrich your lives, invigorate your imagination & buy this film. You will not reget it!
NICE ANIME - By: H. waheedi, 22 Oct 2003
This anime has an interesting story.
Its about a wind that has been blown by aliens causing humans to Have a total amnesia. Here the hero moves & learn..............
I gave it 3 stars because there was only one plot & a few action scenes & no drama.
This anime is nice to watch it once, its not the enjoyable type that you would keep.
Oh Dear.. - By: , 19 Jan 2003
Terrible, a movie which could put you to sleep in seconds. Absolutely nothing to it-it's extremely boring. If ,in case, you are looking for a good depiction of a manga movie (or are looking for an action packed manga) I would stay away from this. There is only one good scene, in which a robot chases a car. THATS ABOUT IT. The rest is worthless & a waste of time. Instead, buy title's like The Professional (Golgo 13), Wicked City, or The Guyver series. At least they entertain you.
An Epic Journey of Love, survival, and purity of the heart - By: codeveronica@another.com, 08 Jul 2000
Wataru, lone traveller of a Future forgotten by its ooccupants. He wanders accompanied by the mysterious & beautiful Sophia in search of other survivors of the wind, helping those they can who have forgotten. Imagine a fine day where a gust of wind erased alll memory of the human race.

This is 'Wind of Amnesia' one of the finest pieces of story telling & action I have seen to come out of Japan with amazing sets. A true to heart script free of one liners & NO moments where you would cringe at poor translation. Highly emotional & thought provoking. Evoking a savage but gripping Future that will change the peron you are. This is a very worthwhile buy. A Hero with a Heart & a mind is hard to find in portrayals of the future (remember Total Recalll & Mad Max). This is an EPIC. Will I say it again.
