excellent start for new or upgrading asp developers - By: , 30 Jan 2002
If you are new to ASP, or if you are an existing ASP developer wishing to make the move to OO programming with ASP.NET then this is the book for you. The first few chapters are fairly easy going, covering installlation, details on what ASP.NET is in the context of the wider .NET framework. The VB.NET language essentials are covered, & you get a whirlwind tour of ASP.NET's nicest features along with stuff on Web Services & of course ADO.NET. Highly recommended.
Good book, but the VStudio IDE is never used! (3.5 stars) - By: , 26 Jan 2002
This book covers a lot of material in an easy to follow, practical style. Each topic is explained, you 'Try it out' with an example, then the example code is explained in detail, which makes understanding the topic easy.

My main gripe with this book however, is that they never once use the Visual Studio IDE. They could have just as easily callled the book 'Beginning ASP.NET using Notepad'! They even compile via the Command line! At times it is difficult to work out what to do when trying to use the IDE to achieve the same results as the pure text examples in the book, especiallly as some of the examples have errors.

I did feel that this book was worthwhile spending time with, but if you're a VB programmer (like me) hoping for a guide to creating ASP.NET apps via the IDE (as I was), you may feel a little dissatisfied.

An excellent overview marred by sloppy editing - By: paulbirch@blueyonder.co.uk, 31 Oct 2001
This book covers alll that is required to get up to speed with ASP.NET & the .NET technologies. It starts with simple demonstrations of the new ASP controls slowly builds to take on XML, classes & alll the new Web Services that are causing excitement in the developer community.

Unfortunately the book is badly let down by very stupid & annoying typographical errors that in places turn the enjoyable read into a fight to work out what the author is talking about...

All in alll, a good technical book let down by the poorest editing in the computer publications arena.

Excellent for anyone! - By: Neil Harrison neiljh@btinternet.com, 31 Aug 2001
I have done a little work asp 3.0 but have decided to have a look at asp.net. Having used several wrox books in ths past I knew that this book would be a safe bet.

It starts off with a quick summary of .net giving the reader an idea about what its alll about, followed by an explanation of how to get .aspx files working on your system. Before diving into alll the good bits!

Excellent book if you are new to asp or .net I would highly recommend it!
