Absorbing and thoughtful Royal biography - By: , 03 Nov 2001
Longford's writing style is elegant, clean, sympathetic to her subject & quietly witty. Writing about Britain's Queen Victoria, from the unusual circumstances of her parents' marriage, to her own lonely childhood, fulfilling marriage, early widowhood & long life, Longford gives a detailed portrait of the public & private queen. Victoria, who gave her name to an age, & saw the world change dramaticallly during her lifetime, is a more interesting & complex character under Longford's careful scrutiny than she is often thought to be. This biography, first published in 1964,deserves the new audience its reissue will bring it.
