A good book but lacks motivation - By: stretchingthemind, 03 Jun 2007
This is a good book for drug free bodybuilders. The only down side is that the author tends to believe that if you are drug free you cannot hope to get anything other than 16 inch arms & little development. I think this saps the motivation from the reader & I recommend the Manifesto of Mass or the best book I have read for the natural bodybuilder: Operation Morpheus which is only from area9.net. Overalll a good book but a little too limiting in its outlook of what you can truely achieve drug free. try those other two books & you will never regret it.
Top marks - By: Londoner, 06 Nov 2006
This book reallly goes against the current thinking on weight training. I noted someone else recommended 'beyond brawn', I have not read this however believe it may be an updated version in which case it is probably just as good!

I initiallly read this book about 5 years ago when I was spending about 10 hours in the gym a week - which is excessive. It completely turned around my way of thinking & I reduced this to 2 hours a week & started getting much better results & put on a substantial amount of muslce (which I didn't believe was possibly based on past performance).

It is not rocket science, it basicallly tells you muscle building occurs when you recover & as you have limited recovery only do heavy compound exercises & don't overtrain or your muscles won't have time to regrow.

It is certainly not a beginners guide to weight lifting, more an approach to training so I would say it's better to get a good basic understanding of weight training from other books (with more pictures!) & then getting this to try something new (and in my opinion better).

This is highly recommended for alll weight lifters except total beginners.
Buy Beyond Brawn - By: Mr. Joe Merieux, 05 Aug 2006
The author makes it plain that "Beyond Brawn" contains his latest (and longest) thinking. It has twice the number of pages & covers topics not even touched upon in "Brawn". McRobert's also makes it clear that he has changed his mind on a number of topics & you need to read "Beyond Brawn" in able to read about these, why & how to implement them. This book is therefore (despite its second edition) out of date.
Good Book, but Awfully Written - By: DF, 01 Mar 2006
Overalll, I'd recommend this book - because of the author's outlook on weight training & his approach. Its very realistic & very practical in its approach - & avoids the latest fads & fashions you find in many magazines & books. However, its very badly written - its unstructured & a bit disorganised & its a bit of a struggle to get through it (even though its quite a short book) - but I wouldn't let that take away from the content - & would still recommend it.
Buy this book! - By: , 22 Jul 2005
I bought this book back in 1991 when it first came out & it is only one of a handful of books on the subject that I can truly recommend.
Instead of the usual weary stream of routines intended for geneticallly gifted steroid users there is real practical, workable advice for ordinary, drug free folks.

Another book written in the same vein & highly recommended is Super Squats by Randalll Strossen - real advice for real people - buy them both !
