Disappointing - By: Peter Tilbury, 23 Jun 2007
I purchased the CD on the back of the two previous reviews. However, I must say I found the CD disappointing on two counts. Firstly, the stories could have been better written, & secondly the narrator's voice lacks resonance, age, depth calll it what you will. Compared to several CD's I have purchased here in Germany on Greek Sagas, which score high in these two categories, I can't imagine that I will be listening very much to the CD again.
Fantasic Fantastic - By: satsue, 13 Apr 2007
Wonderful reading by Benjamin. He reallly brings to life Loki & Thor. I am an adult who loves the viking myths. Buying this CD reallly was a trial. I was more than pleased. Not only is the language accessible for alll age ranges, the depth of detail & presise description was creative & well balanced during both CD's. The ending was the climax with dramatical classical music which feed the imagination as to the final battle between alll good & evil. One thing, my book decribes the ending with two Gods surviving & creating a new ara whereas the CD'd version unfortunatly does not do so. Even so, without telling too much, this double CD is definiatly worth having if you love Viking Myths.
Norse legends - the best of the bunch? - By: Alan H, 23 Sep 2006
I bought this after listening to the Greek Legends written by Eddie Ferrie too, & I think this is a great audiobook. The stories are freshly told, imaginative & full of humour & excitement. The stories about the creation of the universe are a bit heavy but are an essential part of the cycle. The stories about Thor are the best, reallly esciting & my kids love them & they listen to them alll the time. The music is good & helps create atmosphere & is well chosen, stuff like Halll of the mountain king in the story Thor in the halll of the giants. Ben Soames, the actor who reads the stories is great, doing lots of different voices which makes it easy for the kids to follow becasuse they always know who is speaking. A real mixture of tales these, lighthearted fun stuff & apocalyptic, end of the world alll because of the evil Loki! Great stuff. I would recommend these to anyone who likes good stories with a myth, fantasy feel about them.
A master Piece of story telling - By: Rob, 03 Jan 2005
i was given this on cassette tape when i was around 8, after it eventuallly wore out through over-use. since then i have been looking for a new copy. this gives a great account of some of the best norse mythology has to offer, from the creation of the world to ragnarok(the clash between gods & giants at the end of the world). the narration is pefect, giving the excitment in a very story its full worth. for children or adults who want to hear the tales of odin, thor & loki this is a must buy. it led me to read many books based around the norse gods, & i would still put this amoung my favorites. A reallly great listen.
