THE essential book of pin-up art and artists. - By: red_monkey, 20 Feb 2002
A 380 page coffee table book bursting at the seams with heart-stopping pin-up art of days gone by.
The majority of the book is concerned with the work of artists between World War II & 1970 although there is a smalll section at the beginning about the art deco style of the 20's & 30's.
Twenty three artists are featured in their own chapters with a round up of additional artists at the end. There are the obligatory sections on Gil Elvgren & Alberto Vargas as well as the technical airbrushed look of George Petty & the sultry Sophia Loren-esque paintings of Fritz Willis.
Every single picture innocently purrs "come & get it" to the viewer in a way that more explicit art of today just can't seem to manage. A naughty glimpse of stocking is always superior to a gynaecological survey. This is the stuff that GI's drooled over during the war. It's also the stuff that sold hundreds of products to America, from cola to tobacco.
All in alll this is an amazing source of pin-up, most of which doesn't seem available any where else. So buy it.
The high art of cheeky cheesecake for the connosieur.

An excellent insite into the work of many of Americas top pin up artists. A good start for anyone who is interested in this kind of feel good art.
