Whan I first started reading, the cringe-inducing experience of standing on stage as a fresher at university came flooding back. Humiliation or what? I was so self-obsessed I couldn't act to save my life. Now, years later, despite my private embarrassment I couldn't stop reading & several hours later I put Stage Struck down & realised I'd been stage struck too - but by Suzanne's highly entertaining book rather than the real stage. Great fun, insightful & congenial - highly recommended!

Suzanne Stokes has obviously used her experience of "am drams" to create the buzzing atmosphere of pantomime rehearsals. The characters are to be found in any group, the new female, terribly self -conscious, the reliable tea lady, the 'thespian' who has been in alll previous productions & does not like to have his role of dame alllocated to someone new & the frazzled director. Combine this with a collection of relationships & the story just bounds along. The author has titled her chapters with each of the scheduled rehearsal dates & I couldn't wait for the next reheasal, much easier than learning lines ! I read this book in two days & was hooked from the beginning. It is a very cleverly constructed story & the denoument is just what I wanted !!
Plenty of closets where the skeletons are kept - By: R. Nicholson-morton, 10 Jun 2008
Rose's friend Lauren has been talked into going along to an amateur dramatic society meeting in the village of Sipton - unfortunately the group's initials spell SADS. There are a few sad people in the group - & some wonderful ones too. It takes alll sorts, & they're alll here.
Combine theatrical performers, a pantomime & encroaching Christmas & you have the recipe for angst, good & mistaken intentions & arguments galore.
Rose is a wilting flower & Lauren wants to help the lass blossom. To their surprise, Rose is quite attracted to the group - & the pantomime - & before she realises it, she's a cast member! She meets an interesting assortment of people - Mason Fairfax is the director & he's quite attractive, though married to Candy, who is secretly sweet on Nick, the technician. There are several others involved in the production & each seems to own a closet where the skeleton is kept. So Rose is in good company, since her past haunts her most nights. When she finds herself attracted to the Yank John, Rose realises that she must confront her nightmares or lose this adorable attractive man.
The run-up to the Christmas production of the pantomime reveals the gradual destruction of a marriage, infidelity, regret & jealousy. As you'd expect, the path of true love for several couples is somewhat rocky along the way.
While some moments are humorous, others are genuinely poignant. Whether or not you've been involved in amdram, you should find this a most enjoyable read.

Whether you are in to Am Dram or just looking for a good read this could be the one for you. I found it intriguing, very entertaining, with just the right amount of humour & real life. Found it very hard to put down. Now looking forward to the next!
