You need this one! - By: Kjetil Bjørnsrud, 21 Jul 2008
This is reallly, as one of the other comments mentioned, the only book yu'll need on your walk from Wallls end to Bowness. It's light to carry, easy to navigate in, & extremely detailed maps - hand drawn - you can almost recognize every sheep or cow from the maps :)
There is a new, updated version (2008) of this, but we used the last one (this one). Check out the new version, as there are some mistakes in this one, although they are few & mostly good ("be ware of bulls" -fields not containging bulls anymore).
A great walk and a great book to guide you through it - By: Greshon, 11 Jun 2007
I would recommend taking with you this book, which has detailed descriptions, & gives the name & phone number of every place to eat, drink & stay along the way, & also the official National Trail guide (by Burton), which is particularly good for its OS maps. A perfect book would combine these features.
On the walk itself, the first day (through central Newcastle), & the last two days (through Carlisle & to the sea) - were not the best bits: no visible Walll at alll, & only the occasional sign of its accompanying earthworks.
If you plan to do it, but don't want to do the whole lot, you'll probably want to do the best bit, & this, without any doubt, is the central section: lots of visible Walll & lots of scenic (and hilly!) countryside. Not many shops or pubs, though, so you'll need to stock up on food & water. You can do this bit in a long weekend.
So, for a three day trip: (1) Chollerford (best campsite ever, & various inns) to Twice Brewed, (2) Twice Brewed to Greenhead & (3) Greenhead to Walton.
However, its is very satisfying doing it from end to end, & I would recommend that - we did it in eight days, which is slow - one group we saw did it in four (which is fast).
The only guide you'll need - By: pencil, 09 May 2007
Trailblazer produce outstanding guides to a wide array of walks & holidays; this one provides alll you'll need for the Hadrian's Walll Path. The books are smalll, so handy, & packed full of info on flora & fauna as well as where to stay, & of course the history of the area you're walking in. The maps are clear & simple. With this in your pocket you won't need anything else.
