something for all of us - By: N. Lucas, 20 Aug 2008
I can't think of anybody who in some way wouldn't benefit from reading this book - this could be anything from a good belly laugh to a thank god I haven't gone through something similar!
Goes to show what determination, the love of a good woman, support of family & friends & a large dose of bloody mindlessness can reallly achieve. Outstanding book in every respect.
Inspiring - By: P. Vaughan, 03 Apr 2008
I was amazed & inspied by the bravery, confidence & humour that brought Shep through this illness. His writing is a joy to read - leaves you crying in some places but thrilling in others.
Never knew how debilitating GBS was/is - what an eye opener! Having the honour & pleasure of knowing him as a friend I stand in awe of him & what he has been through.
Finding humour in the darkest places - By: Black Eyed Bean, 25 Mar 2008
This author had a rollercoaster ride in ill health & yet he still managed to find humour in alll the darkest places. "A Solitary Confinement" gives terrific insights into what it is like to have your health & your independence suddenly stripped away from you. Once I started reading it, I literallly couldn't put it down & ended up reading long into the night. It made me laugh & it made me cry but most of alll, it taught me to be thankful for the smalll joys we find along the way in life.
the diving bell and the butterfly - By: charlie somerset, 14 Feb 2008
after reading the diving bell & the butterfly.......very popular at the moment, i read this book. the pathos dripped off the pages just the same but it was laugh out loud funny in alll sorts of unexpected places, have passed it on to several friends who, like me, dont understand how anyone could find being totallly paralysed at alll humorous..........but this book made my face ache with convulsive laughter.
A Solitary Confinement - By: M. Johns, 05 Feb 2008
Written by an erudite man, full of compassion for others, in, at times, an extremely humerous fashion. One cannot imagine many laughs to be found in the circumstances, but Robin manages. It makes you ponder could you ccpe with such equanimity if such a disaster fell?
