Good coverage. One of the best books around. An excellent revision tool - By: Gary C, 06 Aug 2008
I found this book extremely useful in my preparation for GPST Stage 2. The book is entirely focussed on single best answer MCQs & covers alll the important topics. This makes it ideal to revise in a systematic & thorough manner. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to do some serious revision & be at the top of their game.
Pitched exactly at right standard - By: DS, 09 Feb 2008
Having just sat the ST exam earlier today, I can honestly say this book is worth every penny. It's pitched at exactly the right level - the questions are laid out in the same format as the exam & cover very similar topics. The explanations are also very thorough & mean that you don't reallly need to 'read around' the questions in other text books. Don't bother with the older books in this series- they're not the same format & are much harder than the actual exam. But I wholly recommend this book & the EMQ book in the same series. Good luck!
An excellent book for those who want to do some serious revision - By: Rob Eck, 31 Jan 2008
ISC Medical have a reputation for producing books that are on the more challlenging side & this book is certainly no different. Overalll the scenarios contained in the book are alll of F2 level (as per the syllabus) though some of them can be harder than others. I belong to the crowd that wants to make sure that they have given themselves alll the opportunities to revise & this MCQs book was a reallly way to achieve a complete revision process for my clinical skills. Stretching it certainly was but I now feel a lot more prepared & confident. The explanations in the answer section are brilliant & saved me having to look a lot of stuff up. Maybe the book could be improved further by including a mock exam paper (something for the author to think about maybe for another edition), but after 300 odd questions, I didn't feel that I needed to do more. Bring on General Practice!
Poor questions but answer explanations useful - By: FY2, Scotland, 30 Jan 2008
I found these questions poor (compared to other revision resources), often you answered a question & the answer explanation said that answer was right, but on this occasion they would do this etc. Answers often were correct by "opinion" rather than practical guidelines.
Although the questions were frustrating the answer explanations were well put together, in-depth & useful. Although other books I've found have been better both in questions, structure & value for money.
Very useful revision tool for GPST - By: John David, 20 Dec 2007
Excellent book with a wide range of clinical scenarios. What I particularly enjoyed about this book is:
1 - that the level of difficulty is just about right, with some questions being slightly more stretching & others being more mainstream. That alllowed me to get used to the exam style but also to revise areas of clinical knowledge that I had "forgotten".
2 - that the author has provided comprehensive answers & explanations. That made it easier to revise because I didn't have to go back to my textbooks or the Oxford handbook for every question.
