A great start to your journey - By: Celtic Mystery, 15 Jul 2008
I was "sick & tired of waking up sick & tired" (to paraphrase Mr. Waylon Jennings) ... & just wanted to stop this extremely unhealthy & anti-social cycle. I picked up this book because it appeared to be written in a style I would enjoy.

I kept drinking even after reading the book, but it weighed on my mind & was working away behind the scenes for a couple of months. One day, about two months ago, I said this is it... i want to choose the health benefits of sobriety. I want to get my energy back. I think the book served as a strong marker on my path to finallly making that choice. So maybe it will for you as well.

I am now aware of how very very very lucky I am that I apparently am not addicted to alcohol. I simply had developed extremely bad habits over the years. In fact I strongly related to Helen's background. & because, thank god, i didn't have the body addiction to deal with, which means you can't just quit without medical guidance, I was able to just stop my drinking.

The book laid out the very clear picture of the benefits of NOT drinking. From health & social aspects - to the costs, both moneywise & time that it steals from your life.

For those who have developed bad habits, & have had the quantity of alcohol intake increase year after year, or have become anti-social with this bad habit - I think you will find this book a good accelerator for getting onto the road to good health.

For those who must strive to stop & deal with the addiction, I imagine this book would be a great gift to receive, or a 'first' book on the path of reading many others. It has great lists of UK resources, with explanations of what they provide.

Hope - By: A Customer, 04 Apr 2008
This book will help give you some hope if you know someone with an alcohol problem or if you are looking for ansas yourself. Alcohol abuse whether it's your own or someone else's can get you very low & having some info about why someone can develop a problem can shed light into what can be a lonely place for everyone involved. Not everyone wants to address their problem & there are different ways to do it + there are no guarantees but there having hope is an important part of recovery & I think you find it in this book.

An awful instruction manual, written in the form of a Text Book! - By: A Customer, 04 Apr 2008
This book reallly is that bad, I'd actuallly give it zero stars if Amazon alllowed it.

Its only real purpose serves as a reference guide/directory for the reader to get in touch with external organisations- should they 'think' they need help!

Do yourself a massive favour- buy Allen Carr's book on the same subject which is infinitely more interesting & helpful than this garbage.....
An eye opener for those who don't even think drinking is a problem - By: Sunrise, 01 Feb 2008
I read this with interest urged by my non-drinker partner. His sensitivity brought to light how alcohol changes your personality & turns you into a different person. I did not use to drink a lot of alcohol, certainly I was not an alcoholic but, reading this, I realise what a drug alcohol is. It's a legal drug to be sure, but so infinitely more damaging than perhaps you may realise. Since stopping drinking it's been a revelation as to how much alcohol masks who you reallly are. A real eye opener, to be recommended to alll.
Brilliant, Honest , down to earth book - By: Mrs. G. Clark, 31 Jan 2008
Thank you Helen & Edmund for a brilliant honest book, Both My father & Brother are my alcoholics, so any book on the subject is of interest to me.
I read the book & was very impressed by the honesty that you have included in this book & how much practical information you have given.
My father is in the final stages of this horrible disease & would not find it helpful.

But my brother thought you had read his mind & put it in the book!! which I think just goes to show how much research & personal experience you have put into this.

I would have liked to see more about Al-anon as they have been my own lifeline, but if that is the only complaint it is a very smalll one.

Well done on the medical, social, & personal imput to the book, a very good informative read.

Well done to you both.
