Totally absorbing - By: Mookie, 15 Jul 2008
I couldn't reallly understand how anybody could hope to write an engaging & entertaining book about spread-trading but so many people had rated it so highly that I decided to order it anyway. I'm glad I did because I've been glued to it for the past three days. I was cooking chili con carne last night & I forgot to add the kidney beans because I was so engrossed!
learned some. laughed a lot. - By: Bash, 11 Jul 2008
I'm a punter used to the world of horses, bookies & betting exchanges. I had a loose grasp of traditional investment (i.e. shares, bonds, unit trusts, currency exchange rates ..) but didn't understand derivatives.
Bets & the City is a great book. A light hearted introduction into the world of spread betting through the eyes of one amateur. It's an easy read, funny, not detailed but has enough to explain:
-derivatives like spread betting & binaries,
-how a spread betting company makes it's money (and how it's in their business interest to have lots of punters placing bets on their system & getting it right!),
-the importance of risk management,
-the concept of technical analysis.
I thoroughly recommend it just for its laughs.
Simple, Yet so Brilliant ! - By: T. Naathen, 25 Jun 2008
The Book is Brilliant, although only touching on Spread Betting, the humor & the real life situations which are portrayed in this book make it a fantastic read. Although slightly on the feminine side & lacking detail on spread betting, it is an ideal book for beginners, & also those who may be on the boarderline as to whether or not they should carry out spread betting!
Excellent read! - By: Ms. A. K. Abbey, 10 Jun 2008
I just loved this book. I could not put it down from the minute I started it. A great introduction to the daily life of a novice spread better. A recommended read as an introduction to financial spread betting. It is easy to read & understand & very entertaining too. Recommended.
Best spread betting book I've read - By: D. HARRIS, 31 May 2008
Humerous, educational & well written. Of most use to those new to spread betting but pros will relate to her anecdotes. In Bets & the City, Sallly Nicoll makes the mistakes so amatuers don't have to. Essential reading for anyone who wants to get started into spread betting
