The content is well written, the pictures are amazing & the knowledge shared is invaluable.
Bear's style makes the book come alive & it is a pleasure to read.
Perfect Coffee Table Material - By: Ms. Verena Womersley, 26 Jul 2007
This is the perfect book if you don't want to have to talk to any male member of your household - because they have their face buried in this book. It's full of interesting, & some gross, facts & ways to survive in any - & I truely mean any dangerous & life threatening situation you may find yourself in. In fact for the most of it, I NEVER want to be in any of those situations - but at least I'll know what to do if I get bitten by a snake, attacked by a bear or lost at sea.
Great book for beginners - By: Syd, 02 Jul 2007
This book will give any person a decent knowledge of survival, & is therefore recommended for that reason. However, if you are like me & know the basics of survival, & have had experience practising them, then this book will prove a bit repetitive. Having said that, it is a good read, & Mr Grylls has undoubtedly incorporated his trademark enthusiasm into this book.
Follow this at your peril!! - By: Avid Fan, 06 Jun 2007
Update: Recent concerns about parts of the program on which this book has been based have been a source of media speculation. Feel free to make up you own mind but after those concerns were raised I felt it backed up my comments below.
I would stick with the likes of Ray Mears & John 'Lofty' Wiseman(although some of Lofty's techniques are getting a little dated). After reading this book, comparing with other bushcraft\survival technique books & actuallly spending time in the wilderness putting what I've learnt into practice, my concern would be if you follow what Bear Grylls recommends you could end up in a worse position than when you started!!
BEAR GRYLLS IS FANTASTIC - By: Mrs. S. Drew, 06 May 2007
After watching the 'Born survivor' series religiously I decided to buy myself the handbook. The book is not complicated to read & I would recommend it to anyone who likes survival or adventure books.
