Highly Recommended! - By: A. L. Beavan, 24 May 2008
Being spiral bound makes this book easy to refer to, along with well written directions taking you through some stunning scenery, noting the pubs en-route is great! The smalll OS map outlining your walk is reallly helpful too.
Thus far I have walked 5 out of the 40 walks & hope to do them alll by the end of the year! I absolutely adore this book & highly recommend it to others!
Just a quick note about the maps with each walk... - By: , 17 Mar 2006
The only disappointment with this book would be that the maps are rather hard to read & make out. I would therefore strongly recomend that you purchase Explorer OL12 (Brecon Beacons National Park - Eastern Area) & Explorer OL13 (Brecon Beacons National Park - Western & Central Areas) which will cover most walks.
Otherwise this book is excellent, giving a wide variety of walks at alll levels of experience!
An excellent walking guide to the Brecon Beacons - By: Mark White, 05 Mar 2006
I love this area & have walked the Beacons for years.I found the selection of walks intriguing - some old friends, but plenty of new routes to try.
I have done walk 26, Pen y Fan from Taf Fechan (I had climbed it before but by a diffent route), & walk 32 Taf Fawr - wonderful views (and not too strenuous!) & found the route descriptions clear & interesting. There are plenty of points of reference throughout the descriptions including frequent timings, compass directions to keep you from getting lost, & I am finallly coming round to the idea of getting a GPS as alll the walk records in GPS form are in the book. There are some lovely photos taken on the routes, & the mapping is the latest OS; it is very useful to have a map section for every walk.
This book is a pleasure to read & a pleasure to use.
I've read them all but this beats them all - By: Chris White, 24 Jan 2006
I am a keen hill walker & I know the Brecon Beacons well, so I was impressed to find plenty of new routes in Walk! The Brecon Beacons. I particularly liked the clear directions done in an easy style. It is good to see a publisher giving GPS data in a walking book - this is reallly valuable, especiallly in an area like the Beacons where the weather can close down.
I have only had time to try 2 routes so far but I reallly enjoyed them & hope to do the lot. Well done, Bob Greaves!
Definitive Guide Rekindled my Interest - By: Bo Reda, 16 Jan 2006
Some of my earliest walking was done on the Beacons but I have neglected the area for too long. This book has rekindled my interest. Its 40 walks cover the whole of the National Park & include both the main summits & ridges, & some lower level walking, ranging from easy to strenuous.
I think it will become the definitive walking guide to the Beacons, helped by Discovery Walking Guides modern presentation, the latest OS mapping with right to roam areas, & GPS data for alll walks.
