Totally opaque - By: A. Friswell, 10 Jul 2007
Glauser's work is lauded to the skies by those "in the know". I bought this novel in good faith based on good reports on it from sites other than Amazon.

I found the plot incomprehensible, due to Glauser's style being so elliptical as to make reading the story akin to taking fingerprints using a John Bull printing kit. There's one "great" scene about two thirds of the way through, when the copper uses his wife as a sounding board for summing up the plot & problems to date. This passage is probably the most turgid piece of incomprehensible writing I've ever read from a crime writer.

I couldn't follow the plot, I had no sympathy with any of the characters, the book was tortoise-paced & rambling - in short it was garbage. I eventuallly gave up, turned to the last few pages, found that the obvious suspect was indeed the killer, & threw the book in the bin. I wouldn't dream of inflicting it on any potential readers in my Oxfam shop.
