Eating habits - By: Mrs. K. E. Hope, 15 Jul 2004
I originallly purchased this book 12 months ago because I found I was putting on weight too easily since retiring - something to do with being idle! Once I had studied it carefully & decided how much I wanted to lose, I found myself methodicallly weighing EVERYTHING I ate. I even cut it so fine as to weigh the things that went on my plate, then weighed what was left on the plate at the end of the meal (if anything) just so that I got accurate quantities. This upset the dog somewhat as he had never seen anything go back to the kitchen still on a plate!! Not only did I lose the excess poundage I had gained, but I found that my eating habits drasticallly changed. It came as a bit of a shock to find out just how many calories I was consuming without even thinking about it & using this book enabled me to re-structure my diet. You don't have to give up the things you like as long as you count the calorific content & keep the other figures (protein, carbs & fat) in a nice balance. By the time I had used the book for two months, I found I was actuallly eating MORE than before, but had managed to lose weight. Even though my weight loss was not great (half a stone) I still use the book to ensure I don't put it back on. Twelve months down the line, I now know that I can go away on holiday, have a good time & not have to take loose clothes with me 'just in case'. Careful planning using what I have learned from this book takes care of this problem. It is a real education in itself & I would be lost without it. I have tried diets in the past, but this is the only method which has proved successful. The weighing of the foods can be a little time consuming & tedious, but it is well worth the effort.
It really *IS* a bible!! - By: L. Reynolds, 29 Feb 2004
This is a wonderful reference for those who are counting the calories. So far, I haven't found one supermarket product that isn't listed.
It's definitely worth it's price!
Disappointed - By: , 28 Feb 2004
I was very disappointed with this book, it is full of data on shop bought items, most of which have the nutritional information on the packaging. I do not need 17 listings for basic carrots bought from different supermarkets, whereas one line for an average sized carrot would be helpful. It has no data on eating out, which would have been much more helpful than data which is readily available elsewhere. Poor
An incredibly informative book! - By: Ms. L. Carol, 29 Jan 2004
I used this book when I was dieting - eventuallly losing 4 stones! The 'Bible' makes it very easy to make sensible choices & comparisons, whether you wish to base them on calorie, carb or fat content, & also gives lots of information about sensible weight loss & eating.
We're now using the same book to help my husband, who needs to eat sensibly to support his exercise programme while AVOIDING losing weight - so there's something for everyone. Keep it to hand & it's a tool for the rest of your life.
IT'S CALLED BIBLE FOR A VERY GOOD REASON! - By: , 21 Oct 2003
This is the only book you will need if you need to know nutritional values - whatever diet or lifestyle plan you are on.
I am on 'low - carb' & have not yet found a food that is not in this book (including supermarket ready meals!)
The best thing is everything is listed alphabeticallly so it very quick to use.
BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT!!!!!!!
