Good, but not as good as the last... - By: Ms. R. Middleton, 12 May 2008
I am currently about half way through New Moon, & have noticed that yes, it is obviously the middle book trying to meet with the high praise that Twilight avidly recieved previously. With the absence of Edward & the Cullens, readers as well as Bella now have to lay their affections with the new character Jacob, the mysterious boy who breifly made an appearance in the last book.
I found myself throughout much of the novel just waiting for Edwards return as I somehow knew that this would be able to pick up the pace of it, as so far nothing reallly significant, exciting or life threatening had happened yet. Bellas character this time around is somewhat detached & so obviously depressed, there were many moments when I got reallly annoyed at her constant whining & the repeated mentions of the "hole in her chest" from the loss of Edward but I managed to carry on reading with the knowledge that he would hopefully soon turn up!
We find Jacob however the temporary replacement for Edward & despite not rekindling the same passionate relationship that she had with Edward, she manages to make herself content with him & be happy, & this makes a definite change from the first part of the book. After alll, Jake isnt a bad character, I just dont think we form as stonger bond with him as we did with Edward & the Cullens in Twilight, as then, she spent practicallly every waking minute with him & formed a much more sensitive connection with him than she is able to do with Jacob. However, its good that she starts to care about him a bit more & try harder to get over Edward. I also found it quite unfair that having just gotten over her long depression over the loss of Edward, that he has to come back & cause her to start thinking about him again, & then having to end it with Jacob, yeah...soo I felt slightly sorry for her there as he caused her so much pain...:(
so yeah..btw, sorry if this is a bit long & wordy, i get a bit over excited sometimes haha!
What Are You All Talking About!?!?!?! - By: M. B. Mason, 10 May 2008
i think if you say this book is a let down after the first one your crazy. It is easily as good, i think better, than the first one. Unlike the first one this book cuts out one of the main characters of the book Edward for the majority however do not let this put you off, while he is away meyer builds character depth & Isabellas relationships with many people, mainly Jacob Black. I found this book alot more exciting than the first, were as in the first it alll went wrong in the end in this book multiple things start going wrong after very little reading starting with Edward leaving. I think meyer developes Isabella beautifully in this book the way she descibes Isabellas sadness is wonderful & very real. All in alll this is a fabulous book well worth reading, if you liked the first book you'll love this. P.S whoever said this book was Emo, your an idiot.

Excellent, but noticably the book in the middle - By: Louise Amkaer, 25 Apr 2008
Bella's birthday party at the home of vampyre-family Cullen makes a disastrous turn when Bella cuts herself on wrapping paper & her beautiful vampyre-boyfriend Edward decides that he & the rest of the Cullens have to skip town.

Of course Bella goes zombie. No, not the supernatural kind, but the depressed, I-lost-the-love-of-my-life kind. She finds solace in the company of Jacob, her Native American friend in La Push. Most of the novel is focussed on Bella & Jacob, who I might add undergoes a hairy transformation. However, don't worry, Edward & the vampyres aren't history. Edward returns during the last part of the book, or actuallly Bella goes to rescue him.

"New Moon" does quite have the extra umph that "Twilight" did, but having read "Twilight" makes it impossible not to read "New Moon". And I do understand the author's need to let something happen between Bella & Edward. From a writing point of view, the teenage lovebirds living happily ever after isn't a good story. I do, however, find that "New Moon" has one lapse. There is a major jump in the story. No, I am not going to say what it is, but it feels like the story jumps tracks noticable, leaving some plotlines unresolved, which I found unsatisfying after having read approx. 200 pages about them. Hopefully, this will be rectified in "Eclipse".

In short, excellent! But it is noticable that this is the book in the middle.

Not as good- but still great - By: violetta, 09 Apr 2008
This book is the second in the Twilight series & is definately not as good as the first book, but it is still gripping & enjoyable. Edward is not in most of the book & Bella on her own can get a little whiny & annoying at times. Its is wonderfully written however, & you can truly feel Bella's pain when Edward leaves her. At times it got a little boring but waiting for Edwards return kept me turning pages & I finished it in less than a day!
Let me just say that I am 28 & I love this series, my husband is also reallly enjoying it, so dont be put off by finding it in the teenage section!
New Moon - By: foxymoron, 09 Apr 2008
When I read New Moon, I just seriously couldn't put it down. You know how they say that when you're stuck into a book you can't get out again? I was like that, except I didn't put it down once until I'd read the whole thing.
It was a bit annoying, because then the book seemed smalll & the events seemed cramped, so I had to read it again slowly for everything to fit in place.
Obviously, my favourite part of the book is when Edward comes back - when he tells Bella that the pictures & the CD were hidden under the floorboards alll along - when she realises he loves her. But then, wouldn't that be everyones?

When Jacob Black becomes a werewolf, my heart practicallly broke - after being destroyed by Edward's dissapearance (although, when Bella realised he loved her, I never reallly got what was so amazing - I think I skipped the bits where Edward said cruel stuff so I didn't get the gist that he was saying she wasn't good enough for him - I thought alll along he left for safety reasons.) When you hear about Jacob's hard set face, solid sarcasm & horrible sneer compared to the talll, young, happy boy who he once was, you realise just how much Bella is going through.
Moving to the Cullens - when Alice first finds Bella again, she seems a completely different character to who she was in Twilight. I got that she was concerned but her sharpness seemed a bit harsh on Bella. Shouldn't it be Rosalie who she is directing her anger at?
Talking of Rosalie, the part where Bella forgives her - where Rosalie attempts to make friends was just so moving I was like OMGOMG!! I am seriously looking forward to the next book so I can get to know Rosalie more. I have read some reviews of Eclipse & they say Bella can't choose between Jacob & Edward - I know it's a hard choice, the Best Friend & the Boyfriend, but seriously - when Jacob has become a jeering, out of control werewolf, & Edward is still the same; gorgeous, irresistable & lovely - it doesn't seem that hard! Bella isn't reallly developing along with the other characters, I think that she is sort of under-developing: When she first came to Forks in Twilight she was nervous but slightly more sophisticated with problems - but when she turns eighteen in New Moon she seems more childish than ever.
I reallly hope she becomes a vampire soon - I would love to see her character like that. And I can't wait until Twilight Movie is out - 12/12/08!!! I am going to murder them if it's bad & if it's good they better make movie sequals!
I know its a hard image to capture but a bad movie of my favourite book will just ruin my imagination.
