Good for the average reader. Details mostly outdated - By: K. Khan, 14 May 2008
This is a good attempt at trying to summarise everything (even literallly down to the stereotypes!) which can easily go wrong if you include dates & details. As with most things ME, moving goalposts is the name of the game & impulsive decisions are the name of the game. I think the authors are fair & also knowledgeable about the region but as a Muslim I think I would like to see more books written from a Saudi/Islamic context as that gives the reader a more accurate perception. I'd say if you reallly want to know about Saudi, ask someone who's lived there for over 10 years. PS: this rating is simply based on my reading of material directed at Saudi (I skipped the other Gulf bits!).
An excellent guide - By: Colin Jones, 02 Sep 2006
I purchased this guide (and others) to get an insight into working & living in the Gulf as a precursor to moving out to Bahrain. I found it well written, informative, concise & very humourous too.

Anyone who is thinking of living or working in the Gulf should buy this as it reallly is a mine of practical information.
