Attractive, informative and entertaining - By: , 26 Aug 1999
Something for everyone here - a quality coffee table book with lots of attractive colour illustrations, but also a fascinating history of Thomas Cook & the pioneering days of the package holiday. In many ways the history of Thomas Cook IS the history of the modern holiday industry, as he was the first to introduce many of the things we take for granted, such as traveller's cheques. I learnt a lot, & I enjoyed doing it!
A great read - By: , 29 Oct 1998
A refreshing view from a outstanding writer. This could have been a drab coffee table/reference book, but is saved by a pleasing blend will researched text & relevant artwork. Hope to see more.

Best at bedtime - By: , 23 Oct 1998
I'm not much of a reader, so this book was a pleasant surprise. Beautiful travel posters with accompanying text that is lively, informative & evocative. Made me want to be reborn as a Victorian!
The ideal gift - By: , 20 Oct 1998
Visuallly entrancing & textuallly lively, this book provides a wonderfully evocative recreation of a time when steamship & steam engine ruled the world of travel. Also a fascinating history of Thomas Cook & the evolution of modern tourism, I would recommend this title as a welcome addition to any coffee table.

Definitely one for the Xmas list!
