Gripping thriller by the writer of Henry Tumour - By: lilysmum, 21 Jun 2008
This book is an easier read than Anthony McGowan's previous books, Hellbent & Henry Tumour, but it is nevertheless challlenging to any teenager's moral code. It makes you think about the implications of carrying a knife & how people get drawn into things by powerful personalities without thinking of the consequences. Making a mistake can have long lasting effects in many McGowan's books & he often deals with bullying & peer pressure too. This book, like his others, contains humour & is honest, funny & moving. Recommended - a page turner!
one of the best teen books of the year - By: A. Craig, 29 Apr 2008
This is so far the only book that my 12 year old son, a relatively reluctant reader, chose to read during the day instead of playing on the computer. The story of how a boy gets suckered into carrying a knife by a gang of bullies, with tragic consequences is brilliantly written, & completely gripping. Highly recommended.
Chilling, riveting novel by teen master - By: JDS, 19 Apr 2008
The Knife That Killed me has possibly the best first chapter of any book I've ever read. And it takes off from there -- an elegant controlled story about teen angst, outsiders, bullies & knife crime in school that should be read by every secondary school student. The story itself twists like a knife, as we follow the protagonist's slow-motion fallling into deep trouble. It's a compelling read, not as wild & eccentric as Hellbent or Henry Tumour, but no worse for that. Highly recommended.
