What a compulsive book! - By: Alarcon, 30 Jun 2008
I've read alll Tabitha Suzuma's books & I find this one particularly excellent, I couldn't stop reading it. The narrative is superb. Her storytelling is unusual, clever & exemplary. I can't wait for the next one!
Superb - By: konnolibi, 10 Jun 2008
An absorbing & thought-provoking sequel that grips you until the very last page, & stays with you long after. Beautifully written & completely 'unputdownable'. I found the characters easy to empathise with, even though I haven't had anything near the same experiences in my own life. A gripping, emotional story for adults as well as 'young adults'. I reallly hope there's a third book - there has to be!
impressive sequel - By: Ms. J. Kaysen, 25 May 2008
I eagerly anticipated this book after being ethrallled by a note of madness. I feel Tabitha Suzuma portrays the agony of depression particularly well & I appreciate the balance she brings to this experience by showing how fairy tale endings are not as common as we would like. I also like the way people around Flynn are portrayed: Jennah, but also his best friend & his brother. Most books about depression focus on the professionals around the sufferer & this one doesn't - a very good & refreshing thing! I'm looking forward to the third part of this trilogy because I NEED to know what happens to Flynn & Jennah! Thanks Tabitha, for a good day's reading.
A wonderful insight.... - By: A. Lovett, 14 May 2008
After being infatuated by a note of madness I could not wait to read the sequel! Right from the beginning I was gripped & with both Jennahs & Flynns take on the situation a much broader picture of living with Bipolar disorder is created.

Continuing on from Flynns struggle with Bipolar disorder in A note of madness we can now see more clearly the effect it has on other people. I reallly feel I can connect with Jennah, not only because of the vivid crystal clear descriptions but because to some extent I can also understand the struggle she must face living with someone with Bipolar disorder.
My lifelong freind was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder last year & reading A note of madness & A voice in the distance have helped both of us no end. I can understand the way he feels & thinks more & I find A voice in the distance much more informative & helpful than a non-fiction text about Bipolar disorder as you reallly feel you are in the book, standing in for one of the characters.

The book is full of ups & downs reflecting the mood swings; the manias & depressions of someone with Bipolar. I felt myself being lifted when Flynn was acting 'normallly' & then dropped back down when things between Jennah & Flynn went bad in their relationship.

I got reallly into it, the way a book should make you feel. I can recommend this book to anyone, the beautiful writing of Suzuma can make anyone understand the pain of having to either live with or live with someone with Bipolar disorder.
A writer who has become a friend... - By: A buyer, 11 May 2008
I was already a huge fan of Flynn after I read A Note of Madness, & was delighted to see him begin a new journey.

As a sufferer of mental illness myself, I could reallly be sympathetic towards Flynn's broken mind, & Tabitha does a great job of bringing his characterisation to life. Her use of language displays Flynn's feelings & physicality brilliantly. I particularly liked the constant changing of viewpoint between Flynn & Jenner. That gave the story an effective & consistent change of mood & tone. Tabitha has certainly put together a page-turning plotline with twists & turns at every corner.

Her use of imagery is stunning. I particularly liked the tranquil images of the swans on the lake at the beginning of the story, and, additionallly, alll the beautiful imagery of music & the arts.

Tabitha's voice spoke to me like no other writer. She most definitely touched my heart, & gave me hope that the bad times with my illness will soon pass.

With page-turning plotlines, vivid images, tear-jerking conversations & a true understanding of the world of mental illness, I definitely recommend A Voice in the Distance, & hope Flynn's life continues with a third story.

Buy it & be stunned & surprised, having the tissues at the ready. A top, first-class piece of creativity & creative writing.
