The best cooking guide i've ever seen - By: L. Green, 22 May 2008

When i first found this book & had a quick scan through i just knew i had to get it. You see, i've always been pretty interested in cooking but been put off by not having any idea where to start or by cooking books that just dive straight in assuming you are already quite proficient.
This book is amazingly different. It starts from the absolute beginning, explaining kitchen essentials & giving easy to follow step by guides to alll the key methods you'll need. I'd seriously recommend this book to students or anyone who reallly wants to learn how to cook in the easiest & most enjoyable way without being sucked in by the gloss of TV cooking shows & ending up lost. After reading this book & absorbing the wealth of knowledge on offer here, then you can go back to these shows & enjoy them alll the more.
After the extensive introduction, the book takes you through progressively harder meals which you then graduallly develop your skills through. Also included are lots of nice illustrations.
I take it the book is out of print now but i'd definitely recommend tracking down a copy. A must for food enthusiasts!
Lifetime of Cooking Lessons. - By: Emile AULD, 18 Mar 2006
In typical Prue Leith fashion, this is not just a book of recipes, but an instruction manual.
Embedded in alll the recipes are a lifetime of cooking lessons, & techniques for you to learn.
The format of the book is 42 Menu Lessons, followed by a long section of Methods & Techniques.
You may want to deviate from the Menu at times.
However the individual dishes in each menu, have been designed to teach you new techniques, & broaden your cooking knowledge.
Learn by doing.
You know it makes sense !!!
