Very useful - By: Strat Cat, 10 Oct 2006
I've used this on two visits. And twice it's done it's job admirably. While I can't vouch for the accommodation section - we'd pre-booked - the info on the sights is thorough, though at times a little over the top. For example, the way the author drools over the view from the connecting bridge between Murano & Burano... if I'd written the book, that 'view' wouldn't even have deserved a mention. I prefer guides that tell it as it is - if something's truly outstanding, then I want to know; if it's merely something to see if you're passing, then I want to know I can skip it without being plagued by the thought I might have missed something spectacular. Some things, like Scoule Grande de Rocco (excuse the spelling, but I don't have the book to hand) was virtuallly deserted - maybe everyone was using this book because it didn't do any justice in describing the masterpieces on display here. As proof of that, we didn't visit this place on our first visit, only on the last day of our second, when we were running out of things to see. Well, guess where will be high on the list to return to next trip. That said, this is a decent guide, but like so many others, it just has certain failings.
Fantastic! - By: D. L. Conroy, 26 Apr 2006
Just returned from Venice where we used this guide. Excellent information on places to visit including concerts & superb recommendations on bars & restaurants - thanks to this guide we had some fantastic meals. Reallly, reallly good - buy it now!
Really Informative - Really Useful - By: matigrebooks, 20 Apr 2006
This guide was essential reading whilst in Venice. This particular version had very few mistakes & I was suprised how up-to-date things like prices for exhibitions, museums, travel cards etc.

Without this guide I would have spent money unnecessarily, as things like the VeniceCard & travel passes are not widely advertised in Venice itself or online.

The guide also provided me with information about neighbouring towns, which prompted visits to neighbouring Padua which was useful.

For beginners & experts alike, it is indispensable reading & the quality of information provided is second-to-none. (Even historical descriptions for those who want to take an extra step) Overalll, this particular guide is unbeatable.

Very useful pocket guide - By: S. J. Williams, 03 Sep 2004
This book seems to me to be the best of the guides for the traveller not too familiar with Venice. (Hugh Honor's Companion to venice & JG links Venice for Pleasure are wonderful books for those interested in more serious in depth stuff.) The RG gets the balance right between practical info & making a serious effort to communicate the real magic of this extraordinary city. The historical background is sound & the info about churches & gallleries enough to whet the appetite. In my view much better than the LP which is so pedestrian & just plain dull.
