Best Guide to Spain I've read - By: , 22 Jun 2001
I found this easily the best Guide book to Spain out of the three I've used (Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Eye Witness). While short on photos, it was the best for providing information about what their was to actuallly see in each region & city in a digestible form & proved the most useful in planning my trip to Spain. I found the hotel/hostel/restaraunt recommendations pretty useful in general.
Total waste of money - By: p_kansal@hotmail.com, 11 Jun 2001
I recently went to the south of Spain & we brought this guide book. It was a total waste of money. We used the book to find a hotel in Granada, 'well located, up market hotel' only to find the hotel was at the other end of the old city & smelled like a boarding school. We ended up staying in the Alhambra hotel because we couldn't find anywhere else. Then when we arrived at Cordova we went to a recommended arabic restaurant for 'excellent inexpensive food' only to find the place had never served anything but tea - NO FOOD ever. After which we ceased to rely on the book.
Good, but what about the Canaries? - By: , 07 Feb 2001
This is a good, thorough guide, full of helpful details on alll aspects of travel in Spain. The information in the previous edition seems to have been conscientiously updated, & there are a number of new entries. The contexts section is particularly strong; the historical background is well written (and up to date), & the discography is excellent. The Rough Guide is also good on the less fashionable areas of Spain & covers places not mentioned in some other popular guides. The language sections are sensible, & should prove very useful to those with a limited knowledge of Spanish.

The Guide suffers, however, from one glaring & baffling omission - there is nothing at alll on the Canary Islands. I hope that Rough Guides correct this omission next time around!

A frank and fair tourist guide - By: , 24 Jan 2001
The Rough Guide aims to tell you the thruth about the places you wish to visit. Very informative, including alll up to date information obtained on the various locations, the Rough Guide also includes tips not only on how to go about your visits, where from & for how much, but also the normallly insignificant information of other guides, such as the renovations that are taking place, until when. Although in some places opinionated, the authors provide a refreshing insight into places, reagrding their history, reputation, & above alll, hidden truth, that may not be included in guided tours in the same place. It is easily referenced, quick & useful to use for immediate information on prices, or travel departures, while at the same time, provides an excellent read while making your way to your destination. A worthwhile book that explores alll the places you didn't necesarily know existed, while providing the reviews of the local bars, restaurnats & local entertainment, with the odd vocabulary you may need to acompany it! After living in Spain for four months with another 5 months to go, the book has been a lovely book to refer too, & has very little faults.
