The best book I've read since Neverwhere - By: marxizms@hotmail.com, 24 Jul 2001
Of the several dozen people I've got to read this book, there has yet to be one who was dissapointed. Rewriting the classic Faustian story, Swanwick details the thinking & attitudes of medevile Europe saturated in dogma & superstition. Dr. Jack Faust, tired of the prevailing ignorance wishes he could usher in a new age of enlightment. He wish comes true, partly. And we see the consequences of modern technology in the hands of 16th century mankind. This book is truly worth buying, reading, owning, lending, & re-reading.
What was it all about again? - By: A. CHARLWOOD, 17 Oct 2000
I did not find this a particularly involving read at alll, the characters were not interesting or well-defined & the storyline was alll over the place & frequently just disappeared to nothing.Like 'The Iron Dragon's Daughter' the story ultimately came to nothing & I wasn't at alll sure what I'd just read or what most of it meant. Disappointing & mostly a waste of time
A most enjouable read - By: , 17 Jan 1999
This book is very well written & quite fast paced. The storyline makes you want to read much faster, basicallly a man asks the devil for knowledge of everything in the universe & then has to watch how humanity use the knowledge to destroy the things around them. The ending wasn't as great as it could have been, hence the 4 crowns instead of 5 but I found this book to be quite enlightening to read.
