A must for every therapist ! - By: A. Sheikh, 05 Sep 2007
I read the three reviewers comments below before purchasing this book, & I have to tell you they weren't wrong. I have to personallly add that this is a must for any new therapist embarking on a career in their chosen field. It is equallly beneficial for those with no previous experience of running a business, as it gives a brief insight into the essentials of taxing & insurance, mind it's not too in depth on this particular area but essential advice in any case. The style is easy to understand, clear & has use of good humour. I particularly like the influence & use of wise proverbs & quotes the author has used throughout the book, which to my mind shows her love for people & her work, as well as I sense, her connectedness with spirituality (this does not make the book any less professional than it is). I am thinking about becoming self employed, am in transition of leaving paid unrelated employment to do what makes me happy, beauty therapy & flower healing. This book has helped me feel more confident & was re-assuring to read about how things operate out there. Lots of practical tips on things to consider about work premises, such as comparisons between working from home or renting rooms etc. A good starter book when considering complementary therapy work, the author's preface states "...the book is intended mainly for massage therapists, it would also be of interest to other newly qualified complementary & beauty therpaists". I have to agree that it is just that, as a qualified beauty therapist & I can relate to the whole book as it addresses the needs of my skills, the advice is equallly applicable. The back of the book contains lots of useful suppliers associated with her field. Highly recommended, packed with lots of fantasic realistic advice. I can see this book will be on hand for me to refer to again & again.

valuable reference book - By: patricia broomfield, 02 Oct 2003
HOW TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL THERAPIST by Celia Johnson.

How to be a successful therapist provides the vital link between qualifying in ones chosen profession & employing that knowledge gainfully.
Celia’s valuable knowledge is gained from her years spent nursing as well as her time running her own business as a massage therapist. Her skeleton of sound advice gives those newly qualified something on which to hang their recently acquired skills.
Celia’s approach is clearly professional but not without humour, her book makes light reading while dealing with heavy subjects such as tax, insurance, advertising & nuisance telephone callls. Personal issues for the therapist are also covered e.g. structuring a working week if self-employed, working from home & working around other commitments, for instance the family.
HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL THERAPIST bridges the gap between knowing it alll & being able to deal with it alll & is therefore invaluable for both first time therapists & those who have been working for some time.
