A Must Read - By: Mr. A. Marczylo, 21 Mar 2007
I read this book some time ago & it reallly has glued in my mind. I read both this one & the prequal in order. They were both amazeing & David Gemmell reallly was a great Author. His books are the only ones that seem to keep me off computer games! With my short attention span that is quite hard.

--POSSIBLE SPOILER--

One thing I loved about this book was the ending. It isn't a obviouse match makeing of who different people end up with & as always there are main characters who do die, but die out fighting for what they beleive in like a true hero. I also love the mythology & religion involved. He makes a well detailed, but interesting world everytime.
For King and Country! A review by DarkHand - By: J. Jenkins, 06 Mar 2007
I have enjoyed this book on numerous occasions, having read this book before the prequel! I believe the mountain scenery & character interaction is what makes this book a little better than some of the others.
Gemmells books are always deep & involving but this one i found took you into the world quickly & kept you there. I dont wish to give away any plot lines but the hero is simple & enjoyable. A must read in my opinion
A pale follow-up - By: Henry Heiberg Andersen, 22 Jun 2004
The book gives some further insight into happenings in the initial book in this duo-logy but by itself it seems to lack the intensity & grandeur of the initial book - “Ironhand's Daughter”. The war against the Aenir in a different reality comes out as a pale second compared to the intensity we found in the struggle between the clans & the Outlanders. Gemmell's writing is still of good quality but this book did not compel me to go on reading as the first one did. Neither did the multi-verse experience he tries to outline get very far when compared to similar settings such as Michael Moorcock's true masterpiece - The Tale of the Eternal Champion Saga. In this case only 3 stars will be rewarded.
Another great book from David Gemmel!! - By: , 29 Dec 2000
This book was a great read & the characters had detailed descriptions & made you, in the end, feel as if you had know them. There were parts in the book that were confusing when talking about the gates, never the less a great book!
Absolutely Brilliant. Moving and intelligent fantasy. - By: J. Pipe, 10 Oct 2000
This is the sequel to Ironhand's Daughter, & it is just as good. If you like heroic fantasy, or even if you don't, buy them. I have recommended them both to a lot of my friends & every single one of them are now as hooked on Gemmel as I am. He is in a class of his own when it comes to writing heroic fantasy, & this is some of his best work.
