An unconvincing conclusion - By: genejoke, 12 Jun 2007
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book, but the story just seemed a little over the top. I was thinking unbelievable but its a sci fi fantasy so believabilty doesn't reallly factor into it. I just didn't reallly like the time travel aspect of the story & the changes in the character of Jon Shannow seemed less than convincing.
Despite this it is still a cracking story & as always David Gemmell keeps the pace right.
Another Shannow classic - By: , 18 Mar 2002
Once again Gemmell grabs the reader with an epic adventure that draws you into a world so far removed from this one, yet echoing with the heroic sentiments that should remain in our own. Shannow is the least recognisable hero in Gemmell's books, not only battling alll who stand against him but also his own inner demons. A complex character who never becomes pretentious or annoying to the reader but constantly forces them to re-examine their opinions of him. Bloodstone is a fitting conclusion to the Shannow triology that will not disappoint Gemmell, Shannow fans or even new admirers. Superb.
One of his cleverest books to date - By: C. Woodhead, 28 Jul 2000
Of alll of Gemmell's heroes Jon Shannow is perhaps the most rutheless & has the highest body count.

He must now face an evil thought put down in Wolf in Shadow that has grown out of alll proportion. A very clever book that reallly pokes fun at itself, I would recommend reading its presecessors though.

Dull, cliched & overworked. - By: cilesley@aol.com, 05 Apr 2000
As a Gemmell Fan I came to this book with high expectations which sadly were not met. Characterisation was sketchy, the storyline just echoed the themes in other Gemmell novels & alll of it was overlain with a gloom which made finishing the book a total chore. Gemmell's women are always a tad 2 dimensional but in this book they were more like pencil outlines. It took me 2 weeks instead of the usual 2 days. Pure purgatory. Makes gardening manuals seem like a thrill a minute.
