Everyone says how important it is to teach story writing, but it can be reallly hard to demonstrate this to children. In this book Sue Palmer reallly breaks it down into manageable steps. She covers each section of a story - planning, beginnings, build-up, suspense & so on. For each section she gives suggestions on how to get it across to children by using shared texts, modelling etc. & provides annotated examples to help the teacher. She even adds a comprehensive list of story starters for those occasions when you're too drained to think of your own! This book is a superb resource & I have found it essential when teaching story. It has made the difference between the temptation of saying, "Write a story about...", & actuallly TEACHING the process.
