Perfect Handbook for anorak, car glove compartment, etc - By: , 25 Jul 2005
According to author Clive Fewins this is a book not to be read - & it is
easy to see what he means.

The Church explorers Handbook is just that. It is designed to accompany you
in your anorak pocket, car glove compartment, or cycle saddlebag.

But first you have to be interested in the subject. The author makes a good
case for church exploring as a pastime. You see lots of countryside, it is
an active hobby, you can do it alll the year round, it is packed with
interest, & it costs you nothing.

According to Clive Fewins there are some 30 million people a year now
visiting churches & cathedrals in the UK. It is a far more popular pastime
than many people realise.

Reading this book I can quite understand why. Church buildings are packed
with interest, & they tell us masses about our country & our British way
of life.

This bright, breezy & compact book has been a real eye-opener for me. It
is solid & beautifully produced. Ideal for the jacket pocket, in fact,
although I have chosen to keep the book in my car glove compartment..

What a fabulous find - By: Entrepreneur virgin, 30 Jun 2005
I love looking at churches but mostly I don't reallly know what I'm looking at. This book has been beautifully written in such a friendly, readable way that I've discovered alll sorts of fascinating things ... I used to think that the ring on the door was just a door knocker .. now I know that it's a sanctuary ring & that fugitives simply had to clutch it to afford themselves protection (I always thought they had to get inside the church).

I reallly would like to thank Clive for opening my eyes to alll sorts of 'obvious' things I'd been missing alll this time - I can now tell a corbel from a gargoyle - & I can't wait to explore with my eyes opened now.
