Since the onset of the structuralist grammatical approach motivated by Sousseur, much progress has been made toward better understanding the language of Biblical Hebrew. Unfortunately, while making the classic reference grammars of Gesenius & Jouon virtuallly obsolete, no work had arisen to make this progress available in an easily accessibly form for the student & exegete until recently. Van der Merwe, et al. have done us a service by attempting to encapsulate the advances made in the past 50 years of Hebrew scholarship, & putting them in an affordable reference grammar. As of yet, this book remains one of the most up-to-date Biblical Hebrew grammars, & stands something of a landmark, pointing the way for future grammars. Any serious student of Biblical Hebrew should probably own this grammar.
