Amazing - By: Jason Hollywood, 15 Jul 2008
Beautifully written, a very moving book that will make you feel absolute empathy with the writer. Evoked very strong emotion, I was in tears at several points.
It is very honest. I know the area the writer grew up in very well, & he captures it so accurately. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it has changed the way I feel about a lot of things.
Honestly, the most amazing book I have ever read.
More than just a book - By: N. Hallows, 26 Apr 2008
This is a very personal & touching story of one man's struggle with BDD & depression. Until I read this book I was completely unaware of people going through similar experiences as myself so it was a real light in the darkness. It is written in a style which makes it easy to read & once picked up I found it difficult to put down. Whether you are familiar with the subject matter reallly doesn't matter - it is a great piece of autobiographical writing in its own right as well as raising awareness of mental illness. It has rightfully earned its place amongst my favourites on my bookshelf.
Suicide Junkie - By: Annwheels, 19 Nov 2007
Many congratulations to Steve for his great writing, his honesty & courage in sharing his pain through the graphic descriptions of his many, many excruciating experiences. The reader shares some of this pain, as page after page reveals the dark hopelessness he has struggled with, & the repeated temptation to end it alll.

I was caught up in the horror of it alll for him...and so relieved when he found Ashley & they began their relationship! In their matching tattoos, they said it was `You & me against the world,' but I believe there are many in this world who would be - not only not against them, but also completely on their side - & hope that they may both be very aware of others' understanding & support.

I've met both Steve & Ashley. They're a wonderful couple & deserve every support & encouragement as they go forward together. Good Luck both of you!
You aren't alone - By: Katy L. Lloyd, 06 May 2007
I began to read this book in january, but unfortunately it's taken me up until two nights ago to finish it, because of outside circumstances.

I think this book is amazing. It details Steve's problems, & experiences almost completely. And unlike most autobiogriphical books,it is brutallly honest, most autobiographies simply scratch the surface & don't come near the level of anguish real people feel, which usuallly makes the author seem shalllow & hollow.

It shows those people who have never felt these feelings how depression, body dismorphia & self injury can effect a person. And doesn't just state a textbook example.

A brilliant book if you've ever felt this way, it proves not everyone is alone, & that there is hope for even the most seemingly hopeless of us. However it can be seemingly triggering in some parts, which of course is no fault of the author, its simply a honest honest book.

I suggest you go & buy the book now :)

well done steve.
Open your closed mind - By: Kevin Wass, 25 Dec 2006
Steve has managed to express himself throughout this book with great maturity & insight. He has obviosly suffered at his own hand, but it is not for us to judge, just experience & digest. This is one of those books that deserve your attention. Be warned some of the descriptions can be harrowing, but sometimes the truth has a way of eating into your soul. With a journey that will take you to places you hoped you'd never visit, it is a story with many levels, & as Steve peels back the onion skins we are let in to a way of thinking that most would find hard to understand, let alone live with. I found it sharp & almost poetic at times. Never letting up, it will have you turning the page & missing your appointment.
