The novelisation of the new animated movie. - By: Ian Tapley, 07 Aug 2008
THE STORY:
During the Clone Wars, obviously, Count Dooku conspires to kidnap the son of Jabba the Hutt. Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker & his newly assigned Padawan apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, are sent to recover the hostage at alll costs, even the lives of the men under their command.

WHAT'S GOOD:
Of alll the authors who've written about them, Karen Traviss has the firmest grasp of what makes the Clone Troopers tick. Here they display understated heroism which is a delight & an inspiration to read. We also get a rare chance to read the inner thoughts & motivations of such villainous characters as Darth Sidious, Count Dooku, Jabba the Hutt & Asajj Ventress.

WHAT'S BAD:
The actual plot of the book is actuallly pretty bland & it's origins as the script of a serialised TV cartoon are alll too visible. Also, the anti-Jedi bias with which Traviss writes became pretty annoying for me pretty quickly. And, be prepared for such apallling nicknames as 'Snips', 'Stinky' & 'Skyguy'. Finallly, anyone who is a fan of the Star Wars Expanded Universe may be frustrated with the way in which this book (and the movie it's based on, of course) shreds established continuity.
