An OK 'time filler quickie' - By: Clive, 26 Jul 2008
Another page turning quick read from Patterson & another ghost writer. The story reminds me of a Tales of the Unexpected episode, it is straight out of the Roald Dahl quick thrillers with a twist. A fine quick pop-corn read where you don't have to think too much. It doesn't reallly pull any punches, thrill, or shock, but reallly is a time filler OK read. Overalll, I guess it took as long to write as it does to read.
cash cow - By: R. J. Ashton, 22 Jul 2008
I am disgusted with myself,I can't even look myself in the eye. Because I read this piece of dross till the bitter end.
Like some horrible blind date I can still feel Mr Pattersons sticky cliches & clumsy plotlines licking around my conscious. Worse even than that is the hum of utter contempt & hubris he generates to the reader as he nibbles around your inner ear.
This is an author who despises his readership. The very same people who have made him as rich as Midas & kept him published for years.
He thinks you are a bunch of fools. He reallly does. So arrogant & convinced of your innate stupidity is he, that he's dropped alll pretense of even trying to deliver a story of any worth whatsoever.
Why else would the characters alll be fleshed out like so many finger puppets;immobile, hackneyed & contrived?
A plot so A to B predictable?
A complete neglect of any aspect of technical detail it can only be described as nothing less than pure bone idled laziness?
And just in case you still thought Mr Patterson had even a shred of respect for you he then pisses alll over your face with a denouement so rushed, cheap & cobbled together you choke.
Come on James. It's time to come clean. Tell us it was alll a dinner party joke. That you just wanted to see if your publisher & public would falll for it?
And we did. In our tens of thousands. You must be laughing into your Krug.
I bought a hardback. £7.95 .
And I want my money back.
Yours sincerely

Decent - By: C.W.Purcell, 16 Jul 2008
As this was the first title I read by Mr Patterson I don't know if "Sail" was typical of his work. It is however a decent 2-3 hour read.
The characters are defined like a crew profile at the beginning of the book. I was not keen on this as I prefer characterisation in novels to be part of the overalll story, however the cross-section of the character's lives puts the reader streight into the action.
Too much information is given away in the summary, If you read this title you will know what I mean (I don't want to give away too much).
This book is worth a read but perhaps it would be better to wait for the paperback.
I also recommend Novels by Clive Cussler with particular reference to "The Chace"
Not Impressed - By: J. L. Towell, 08 Jul 2008
I have not read any of Mr Paterson's previous works so I have no yardstick to judge the novel within the body of his work. On a standalone basis I thought the novel was embarrassingly bad, more like the screenplay of a straight to video film. The characters one dimensional & the plots contrived. I selected the novel as light holiday reading & was attracted to the yachting theme. Despite this relatively undemanding requirement I was still disappointed, even some of techie sailing stuff was poorly researched. I won't be visiting Mr Patterson's oeuvre again
Easy Read - By: Mrs. S. Payne, 07 Jul 2008
All I can reallly say is that this is a typical James Patterson book. The storyline is good quality & you are left with a cliff hanger at the end of every chapter. As usual, there is a twist at the end & the chapters are short a sweet. A good read.
