When I first opened this book I was taken aback to see numerous cartoons & illustrations, but my initial prejudice was soon assuaged. The text provides a succinct, entertaining & informative overview of the empiricist tradition which should greatly help beginners come to grips with the main issues.

Unusual for Icon books, this takes a school of Philosophy rather than a single Philosopher.
The content is very clear & it traces empiricism from the origins of (British) Empiricism to its ultimate down falll at the hands of Popper, Wittgenstein & Quine.
The author pulls together a mass of source material & makes the basic doctrines clear.
Every so often books in this series are exceptional, & this is one of them.
