Amazing book! Great if you want a Pocket guide to london - By: Jemma G, 19 Jul 2003
This book offers brilliant advice on where to go & where not to go. This guy seems like he has actuallly been to alll the places. It is set out in an easy to read way. It is colour coded & has 6 maps in the front & back covers! They are alll very detailed, include street names, train stations & it has the underground map. Its alll you need to know on where to stay, eat, shop & visit. It even has sections just for kids! I would advise anyone to buy this book!
A mean sprited guide - By: Andy Shember, 21 Jan 2003
I am generallly a fan of the Lonely Planet guide books, but this one is just dreadfull. It's mean spirited, pedantic, cliche reliant & badly written. We alll know that London isn't the clean, sparkling well ordered city that say Paris or Berlin aim to be, but thats half the charm. The city is slightly chaotic & rough around the edges, but this guide trys to make out that this is a failing. If you have read this book & you are reluctant to visit London, buy a better guide book, don't miss out on one of the greatest cities in the world.
curiousity - By: Clive Pacey, 13 Feb 2002
out of curiousity, following some publicity, I had a good look at this guide & whilst i am London born & bred I am not starry eyed about the city of my birth.
However, maybe I wasnt born there after alll because the city portrayed in this sour little guide is not recogisable to me or I would imagine millions of others.
The shame of it is that this might serve to put people off visiting a unique city, but then again maybe not
you sense that the authors had their minds made up before they even tackled the subject, which is reallly not the point of the exercise
Ignore this rubbish & head for one of the Time Out guides, which are balanced & intelligent
One of the best guides to London in years - By: josiebenman@hotmail.com, 30 Aug 2001
This guide is pithy & accurate & definitely what you need if you're visiting or indeed living in London. It cuts out the general waffle about how amazing London is (which is debatable in itself) & actuallly tempts you into visiting the more out-of-the-way & less touristy parts of the capital. It is readable & colourful enough to get you through the soggiest of days. Informed, opinionated & very useful & I've been living here for years.
A Cardinal Sin of a Guide... - By: , 29 Aug 2000
This guide fails on one very serious sin committed - the cardinal sin! And it's sin is that it does not like the the place it is writing about. Obviously London is not the publisher's favourite. That would be fine if you were dealing with a second rate seaside resort: but they are not. The world's most fabulous city is relegated to a repository of not only alll the ills, but much of the world's stolen property. Definitely a guide for people who have no intention of visiting the place - let alone with an open, objective mind!
