Lacking many features for a Texas Hold-em player - By: Mr. M. Simpson, 13 Aug 2008
I've watched Sam Farha playing Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) poker on TV, so I figured this book would be a good book for beginners at PLO, as he is an excellent player. I've only been playing Texas Hold-em for the last 2 years, & although I understand the rules of Omaha Poker, I was hoping this book would outline the fundamental differences between the two games (in terms of starting hands, betting tactics, bluffing etc). Sadly, I'm still as clueless as I was before I bought this book.

First on my list is that this book assumes that the reader knows how to play the game. There is no section explaining the basic rules. Secondly there is no section detailing premium starting hands, just the odd occasion where Sam tells you which hand he used in a particular situation. He also uses phrases such as a 'wrap' which I still don't get, mainly because there is no glossary in the book.

To the books credit, it has three main sections, Omaha/8, Limit Omaha & Pot Limit Omaha. But the differences between these games aren't explored thoroughly, which left me feeling a bit stupid. Even the concept of pot odds & outs isn't covered enough for a beginner.

In short, this book reads like an ego trip & some easy cash for Sam Farha. Unfortunately, this was my first Omaha book, so I have nothing better to recommend. If you are a complete beginner, or bored with Texas & fancy a change, avoid this book. I,ve bought alll of Dan Harrington's poker books (excellent by the way) so I guess I'm used to having them well written. Perhaps this book would be useful if I was already a fully fledged player, but as it stands, I don't think this book has had the full attention necessary to improve a player of ANY standard to a better standard.
