The ultimate self help book - By: S. M. Williams, 25 Aug 2008
This is the book that pretty much started it alll & inspired generations of Personal development authors.

The 'family tree' that comes from this guy is very impressive, He employed Clement Stone, who mentored Jack Canfield of 'Chicken soup for the Soul' fame. Jack Canfield also featured in 'The Secret' which is the latest craze amongst personal development. The whole tenet of 'The Secret' is just a smalll part of this book. Napolean Hill deals with the law of attraction but in a very practical way.

I first encountered this book almost 30 years ago. I don't think I was quite ready for it & didn't fully 'get it' but it still stuck with me & I have re-read it a number of times over the years. Every time I read it I get more from it. I now use it in my wealth coaching & recommend it to alll of my clients.

It is well laid out with numbered steps to improve your wealth, practical exercises & some inspring stories. Desite it's age this book is probably more relevant than a lot of the modern books.

I would advise anyone to read it & I actuallly give away a free copy to everyone who signs up with my wealth programme.
The religion of money - By: A reader, 21 Mar 2008
I have enjoyed a number of genuinely useful books on similar subjects such as 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' & based on the reviews on Amazon I was looking forward to this as well. Unfortunately I was bitterly disappointed.

This is a very bizarre book. It literallly elevates the pursuit of money to a pseudo-religion. You are actively encouraged to become fixated by money. It is written in an obnoxious pseudo-religious style as if some great universal truth is being transmitted to the reader.

Unfortunately, the book is full of the most ridiculous new-age claptrap. The principle seems to be something along the lines of: you send out 'vibrations' of desiring great wealth & this is 'transmuted' into physical money by 'Infinite Intelligence' (sort of god). This is plainly nonsense.

Sorry to say, but the supposed 'power' of this book has to be a placebo effect. A placebo can be a very powerful thing - but personallly I don't think it is healthy to believe in something which is clearly nonsense.

There may be some valid principles in the book, but the author had lost alll credibility for me by the end of the first few chapters. I would rather read a book that just gives me the facts without the nonsense.

The bottom line is: How many millions of people have read this book? How many million of them are fabulously rich? Money is not a religion. DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ! Get some skills that people will pay for if you want to become rich.
What matters is reading on! - By: book maniac, 16 Nov 2007
I heard of this book in `Rich Dad, Poor Dad' by KIYOSAKI for the first time. I came to realize that this book has been considered as sort of a Bible in terms of getting rich, when I checked the `customer reviews' on the website of Amazon. So I decided to give it a try.

Indeed, this book may be an eye-opener for those who just wish to become rich without thinking twice. However, frankly speaking, the so-callled "secrets" as follows in this book are nothing new at alll for me & maybe for you as well. Having said that, even you've already known the `secrets', this book will definitely inspire you if you read on page by page. It provides you with an opportunity to converse with yourself, by which you may become a person with deep conviction of getting rich. That's the power of this book.
1) Discipline
2) Dedication/persistence
3) Hardwork/determination
4) Practice & practice & practice
5) Confidence
6) Ambition along with personality

Again, the `secrets' in this book are simple. What matters to you is the process of reading on.

My "desert island" personal development book - By: Mary Collin, 19 Jul 2007
I can't remember how long ago I first read this - probably in the early 1980s. This is the book I would keep/take to a desert island if I could only have one.

It's as relevant now as it was when it was first written & my copy is battered, water-damaged, highlighted & anotated & . . . I wouldn't part with it for anything.

"Classic" is an over-used word but it genuinely does apply to this book. Truly wonderful, inspiring & mind-stretching. I come back to this again & again. Get it in any version - I have the book & the audio programme - & use it. I hope you get as much from it at each reading as I do.
The Version of Think and Grow Rich to Rule Them All! - By: Tariq Ismail, 08 Jul 2007
This is one book I always get something new out of with every subsequent reading, even if I only flip to a random page. All you have to do is decide what you want & like so many have discovered, this book will show you the steps to get it.

Ross Cornwell's version restores chunks of texts removed from the 60's Balllantine paperback ('The Secret' enthusiasts will be pleased with what they'll find). This version also provides extensive endnotes to deepen the understanding & appreciation of Dr. Hill's 20 year research into the science of success. Unlike footnotes in other editions, the endnotes also alllow for uninterrupted reading of the main text.

Order multiple copies of this one because it'll wear out from use very quickly & consider any copy you lend out as a gift because I can't imagine there's any way they'll willingly return it back to you.
