One of the best (out of the 13 I've read) - By: Cameno, 29 Apr 2007
I found this volume one of the best that I have read, it exsposes Kyo's past, which reallly accounts for his bitterness. I found it a real tear jerker. Normaly when it gets to a good part in fruits basket , i jump up & down & go crazy cause its like wooow that happended. but when i read this volume & a good bit happended (which it does)i just sat staring into space, so dumbfounded, then i started crying (i get reallly into manga) - i hope that doesnt give too much away but im telling you this volume is reallly good.:-)
Fruits Basket - By: I. Thackrah, 16 Jun 2006
Fruits Basket follows the life of orphaned high school student Tohru Honda. When her mother is killed in a car crash she is forced to go & live with her Grandfather. We join the story when she has had to temporarily leave her grandfather's house, unwilling to impose on any of her friends she opts to live in a tent. Despite working herself into the ground she remains cheerful & one day stumbles across a house in the woods in which live some of the mysterious of Sohma family. Feeling sorry for her (after the loss of her tent/home) they invite her to stay & immediately put her to work cleaning up the male dominated household.
Tohru soon learns that the boys of the house are not quite what they seem, they are possessed by the spirits of the zodiac. The story follows the lives of Tohru & the Sohma family, as they deal with each other & a society where neither quite fit in.
Fruits Basket is now finished in Japan & is collected into 20 volumes. In 2003 Tokyopop was urged under huge consumer pressure to translate the series for the U.S. audience & was first translated in 2004. By the fifth issue the manga had taken the title of 'Best Selling Shojo Manga' a worthy credit to this incredibly popular series. This series would form the backbone of any collection & while I'm no where near completing the set I would imagine that I'll collect them alll.
Vol.6...
Delving into the recesses of Kyo's past, we find the Sohma trio returning home on a rainy day. There a mysterious man who has known Kyo for a long time meets them. Trust, loyalty & the bonds of family & friendship are tested, as Tohru must help Kyo deal with the "monsters" that he's been trying to avoid.
I didn't think it could get better but it does...
best volume of a great series - By: , 21 Jan 2006
those who've seen the anime series wil appreciate how much of a climax this volume builds to. The dark hints which had been creeping into the story, niggling at the edges get out into the open air.
Takaya's drawing ans storytelling style are normallly very good, soft & playful, but take on a very effective dark edge, by far my favourite of the series so far
