Learn French in Your Car - By: ALT, 04 Jul 2006
I drive about an hour each day & wanted something that I could use in the car. Unlike the previous reviewer, I find the sound is absolutely fine. There is an option to have French played on one speaker & English on the other but I reckon it is best on normal stereo. I liked the CD so much, I bought the 2nd & 3rd series. These are not quite as good as the speaker hesitates before saying whether polite or familiar forms are to be used. Also, alll are slightly "American" in terms of English phraseology but not too bad. It is a very good way to learn good diction & vocabulary but you reallly need other material, eg writing & speaking to learn properly. Overalll recommended as a very good product to supplement other learning material if you can use in your car.
Not for people who don't already know French - By: , 03 Jan 2006
These CDs are alright to REVISE your french. But if you have never learnt French this is the worst learning tool ever.
The sound quality sucks. It is in mono format (I think) because you can hear the English on one speaker & then the French on another. So I had to strain to hear the French in my car since it played on the speaker of the farther side. Ridiculous!
An excellent learning tool - By: C. R. Lister, 21 Aug 2005
After arriving back from france for the second time I decided that it reallly was about time i learnt to speak French & after about an hour looking at what was available I decided to buy this CD set. I tried listening to these CDs whilst driving & found it far too distracting! Instead, I've been listening to them at home whilst reading the accompanying booklet & already have noticed my french (and confidence with the language) improving significantly. I've found it much easier to learn the correct pronociation of words by listening to someone speaking French rather than just reading through old school books etc. The way in which the CDs introduce new words & phrases is fantastic since only one new word is ever introduced at a time & each lesson builds upon vocabulary taught in previous lessons/chapters. I've found it necessary to constantly refer to the booklet (as opposed to solely listening to the CDs) since it clarifies a lot of the grammatical rules & 'nitty gritty' details such as word contractions & the context in which you can use certain word/phrases etc. In short, I highly recommend this CD set & consider it an absolute bargin at the price!

This is a good way of learning a new language , you pick it up withouteven realising. 3 disks & loads of lesson, with things from saying helloto a shopping list or how to book a room & change money!
very useful!
It works without you knowing it! - By: Martin Swiffen, 14 Nov 2003
I do a lot of driving with my work & spend up to 3 hours on the road every week day. Although I do get by listening to music I felt that I could better utilise my time & decided to have a go at learning a language & chose this course.
The thing I like about this the most is that it sinks in without you knowing it. You're driving along & not reallly concentrating on the CD which, in my opinion, makes the learning easier. I do an hour a day with this & am flying through the course & learning very quickly. I would recommend it to anyone who spends a lot of time in the car.
