I build decks for a living & thought I would take a look at a few books for more design ideas, although most of what was contained in this book I already knew, I still found tips that were very useful, The book is based mainly on American standards so imperial measurements are in use throughout the book but that's not a problem reallly & Americans have been building decks for a very long time, so for the beginner & novice I would recommend this book.
I bought brand new from Amazon & delivery was just a few days, so service was excellent as was the book.
Top book pity about the retailer - By: Mr. Richard Jones, 16 May 2008 This book is amazing, & has alll you need to build your own deck. But. I`d beware of who sells it for amazon as mine took 4 weeks to arrive!!!!

However, if you are a casual handyman you'll find out that building a deck isn't just a weekend's work. Best results come with a bit of help from a smart friend or relative... A friend of mine who overestimated himself set out for a deck & ended up with a horror that had to be taken down half way through :-))))

I read this book & was even more convinced I could build my own deck. The deck I am planning to build is very large, will have a hot tub in it & be multi level. I have every confidence that I will be able to do it myself & when visiting local timber merchants who sell decking I discovered that I knew more than them. It stops them from giving you BS. I posted the book to my father-in-law who's is going to help me. He phoned me two days later & reckons that the book has given him everything he needs to know in order to build the deck.
If you are planning a complex or a simple deck this book has it alll.
Decking for the novice made easy - By: , 14 May 2004 This is an excellent book, the detailed descriptions are explained in layman terms & there are plenty of pictures to put everything into perspective. I am by no means a DIY expert but I am confident that I will be able to build a deck with the help of this book.
