A must for anyone who wishes to produce proper clothing - By: simon crawley, 21 Aug 2006
I bought this book in my last year of college & although i have been a professional fashion designer for years now i still believe this to be a bible for anyone in the clothing industry. Not only will it inform of the tips & techniques used in couture, The book will also inspire you to gain more knowledge in bespoke/couture & as result your own work & designs will florish, Trully brilliant well done Mrs Shaeffer.
I must finish with a warning though, This book is not for beginners & will only confuse those who are starting out. As the saying goes learn to walk before learning to run this book is for those who can run & have been working in the fashion industry or at home for some years.

A truly wonderful book - By: Kamino Wuergland, 04 Feb 2003
Having tried to find books for advanced home & hobby sewers in German (almost impossible), I came across this book, & have never regretted buying it a single second. And having aimed at perfecting my skills with regard to creating wardrobe, I was amazed about how little I have known so far. Why could I not find such book a lot earlier!!
Even while browsing through it, a lot of questions that I had always had were simply solved by reading instructions, & by the conciseness of the illustrations. My only - personal - problem is that the language is quite technical, & at worst, I have to read with a dictionary by my side, as my English is not so advanced on technical discussion level, but alll of Ms Shaeffers instructions are self-explanatory & very precise.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone ready for a new challlenge in spicing up their wardrobes. And yes, even if you 'only' use the odd trick here & there, your clothes will start looking different - much more professional - as you start paying more & more attention to little details, & learn to avoid mistakes by focusing on how something should reallly look like - not that I wasn't focused on what I was doing before, but this is like the difference between your first watercolours & your first picture in an exhibition.
Thank you, Ms Shaeffer, for taking the time to write this absolutely, truly, wonderful book, & keeping good traditions alive.
Needs more pictures. - By: pebbls25@hotmail.com, 14 Nov 2001
While the book give brilliant accounts of how to bring detail to sewing I feel that it needs more step by step pictures.
Make your home sewing projects really special - By: , 17 Jan 2000
I would recommend this book to anyone who takes sewing seriously & would like to improve their skills. Not only does it contain good illustrated techniques but it also includes a lot of interesting information about the history of couture clothing & its designers. Only one smalll grumble - I wish the section on trousers was longer & more detailed!
