The best book on qualitative research that I have read. - By: Rajamäki Heidi, 21 Apr 2008
I would strongly recommend this book to any business student considering using qualitative methodology on her/his thesis or dissertation.
If you have not read any books on qualitative research, this should be a good choice to start with. The book provides a great overalll look on the approaches in qualitative studies. In addition to the "traditional" qualitative approaches it describes several less-know approaches such as narrative research, discourse analysis, feminist & critical analysis. All the approaches are presented in a clear & comprehensible way that gives useful advice on how to conduct that particular sort of qualitative business research in practice. There are plenty of concrete examples that help to understand the concepts & the methodology in question.
The book is also very useful for post-graduate students & more experienced researchers. Besides using the book as a guide when conducting qualitative study, helpful when reading & evaluating qualitative research papers or articles that adopt different approaches than the ones the reader is familiar with. The book is organised in a way that the reader can easily & quickly check on the underlying philosophies, principles, practices & evaluation criteria in a specific approach.
A welcome book on qualitative business research - By: Elina Henttonen, 18 Apr 2008
Qualitative methodologies are gaining ground in various disciplines in business schools & faculties but there are not many textbooks that would deal with qualitative research directly in business research context. Therefore, this book is a highly welcome contribution.
The book covers alll the major approaches within qualitative studies in business context, such as case research, grounded theory, ethnography, action research & narrative & discursive studies. Different methodologies are introduced by keeping an eye on the entire research process: how to understand the role of theory, how to produce empirical material, how to perform analysis, & how to write up & evaluate the research. Examples from particular business settings provide the reader with a practical sense of doing research. In addition to motivating the reader to make informed & justified decision between various methodologies, the book also encourages the readers to be critical & reflexive in their research processes as well as pay attention to research ethics.
Overalll, the book is written in an accessible & reader-friendly way & is, therefore, an excellent textbook for business research methodology courses. I would especiallly recommend it for graduate & post-graduate students in the fields of organizations & management, entrepreneurship, marketing, & accounting.
Most useful and easy to read book ever - By: Gerald Genta, 08 Apr 2008
I bought this book in order to learn how to do my thesis & I must say that I reallly enjoyed reading it. The book is very comprehensive, it is well organized, written with clear English & easy to read & understand.
You will see & learn reallly a lot about the process of doing qualitative research by reading Part I of this book. What I think was most useful though was the way each of the qualitative research approaches were described separately in Part II of the book. This part is my favorite because it gives you so much information about how to do qualitative business research in different ways.
This book is a reallly good buy for any person interested in business research. But for any serious business student, it is a must to have it in your book self.
