Great Book - By: N. Reed, 04 Jun 2008
Great book, perfect for those with a basic understanding of photography etc. to apply to a possibly new medium.

Includes a couple of chapters on the different styles of lighting, very useful to illustrate different looks etc. Book finishes with case studies on about 5 artists, & includes brief overview of the way the photography was taken & the camera settings etc.

The only disadvantage is that it doesn't delve too far into exact lighting settings or other details which may have been useful, but that is personal preference.

All in alll would recommend.
Nude Photography - By: Andrew Kerr, 10 May 2008
If like me you've ever Googled the words 'nude photography' in an attempt to gather information or to get help with the subject, then the chances are you got the same thing I did. Nothing...or just porn. In my career as a photographer, I've always found that nude photography is the most difficult area to not only excel & succeed in, but even to just get started in. Let's face it, anyone can pick up a camera & go outdoors to shoot spectacular & beautiful photos of landscapes or flowers, but nude photography takes something more. Not in terms of high tech equipment but the ability to direct your 'model' into various poses, being able to choose & use your location & light & to have the creativeness & vision to capture unique & stunning photographs.

Nude Photography the Art & the Craft is properly one of the best help books I've came across to date. It reinforces the fact that great nude photography doesn't require a state of the art studio, a two thousand pound camera with half a dozen different lenses or a professional model.

It covers the essentials & is packed with some very useful practical tips & techniques to help & inspire you. Almost every page has a good size stunning non-explicit nude photograph & the book covers both the female & the somewhat unknown (to me anyway) male nude. It gives you background into the history of nude photography. It explores techniques like connecting with a location & nudes & nature. It also offers information to help with the post production side, with cropping, adjusting tone, retouching etc. The book is well structured & laid out so it's easy to follow & understand. Personallly I found the areas exploring techniques the most helpful & useful as this can help you develop your own style. The final section shows you actual examples of work from professional photographers like Sylvie Blum & Almond Chu who offer their advice & show you how they captured their photographs.

Overalll I felt that this was a great book that will help any photographer whether you're a complete beginner interested in the area, a photographer new to the subject, or an expert who just wants some inspiration. You will not find a better book for less than twenty pound.

Useful with great images - By: J. Mower, 25 Apr 2008
I reallly enjoyed this book & have found myself coming back to it for tips & inspiration. After a brief history of nude photography the author explores different styles & techniques. Aimed at the beginner I would recommend this book to anyone looking for ideas for their first nude shoot.

good value.
