Carnivals are not carnivorous except in this one case - By: Mehajabeen Farid, 13 Jan 2008
The word "carnivorous," which appears in the title of this book, means "meat-eating," & once you have read such a bloodthirsty word, there is no reason to read any further. This carnivorous volume contains such a distressing story that consuming any of its contents would be far more stomach-turning than even the most imbalanced meal. To avoid causing discomfort, it would be best if I didn't mention any of the unnerving ingredients of this story, particularly a confusing map, an ambidextrous person, an unruly crowd, a wooden plank, & Chabo the Wolf Baby. The rating I would give, for this terrible story which began in the boot of the enemy, is 7/ 10.
Letter from Violet, Klaus and Sunny to Lemony Snicket - By: Sebastian Fernandez, 16 Sep 2007
Dear Mr. Snicket,

We have found out about you telling our story, & we wanted to communicate with you. Luckily for us, this reviewer visited the carnival in which we were performing in an unusual capacity (as f-r-e-a-k-s) & agreed to make this message available to you. At first we were enraged, since we realized that you were interjecting funny comments in our story, which seemed to derive from reallly bad taste. But then we understood, if you did not do that, nobody would want to read about our miserable experiences.

As you already know, we barely escaped from the hospital. "Slash!", that was a comment from Sunny, who intends to say that Olaf & his cronies were trying to chop off Violet's head & they almost succeeded. We sneaked into the trunk Count Olaf's car & ended up in this carnival, trying to figure out the secret of V.F.D. If you have any information, please, please, please, help us out. "Chersssh", that was Sunny again, saying that we found out that one of our beloved parents may be alive. If you have any news, we would appreciate you providing this information to us.

We have found a few compassionate people in the carnival, but the lions arrived a short time ago, & we are getting scared. If you have any way to contact Mr. Poe, tell him to come rescue us. He seems to have missed our telegram. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Violet, Klaus & Sunny Baudelaire

PS from the reviewer: Mr. Snicket, I realize that you have found out about the events that unfolded at the carnival & already wrote a book about it. I applaud your accuracy in telling the tale & I thoroughly enjoyed your use of humor at such a grim time. I hope you can help these children & I hope I get to find out soon about what happened to them. I have a lot of questions & the suspense is killing me. I will now let you get back to your writing, which I hope many people get to read. Best regards.
Pretty good, though not his best - By: lindabookworm, 13 Mar 2007
Yeah,it is OK.But i have read alll his books & don't think it's as good as the next book in the series, which is, for me, the best one.But it's pretty good.I reallly like Lemony's books & think they're fab. This one was a slight bit disappointing, but it wasn't his best.I rank it in his bottom three. But i still absolutely love his other books & he is definetely one of my favourite authors!

Carnivorous and hungry for more! - By: D'Angelo Twain, 22 May 2005
The ninth book in the series is one of the funniest & is extremely interesting throughout, despite a slow build up. The Baudelaire orphans find themselves arriving at caligari carnival in the back of olaf's car this time. They disguise themselves as freaks for the freakshow in this carnival to find out what olafs reallly up to. It turns out Madame Lulu, a mysterious fortune teller, holds the answers to alll the baudelaires question, but as their luck would have it, their are many obstacles along the way, incluing olaf & some hungry lions...
