Reasonably OK pot-boiler - By: J. Jacob, 22 Sep 2008
I read Kane & Abel when I was a teenager shortly after I'd devoured the TV mini-series. I loved the TV programme & I loved the book back then.
I figured I'd have the same experience twenty-odd years later. For the most part I did enjoy it. But there are moments when the seemingly never-ending series of appallling coiincidences combined with some quite painful sex scenes described in excruciating detail left me wanting to throw the book across the room.
Having imparted such vile observations, I still recommend it. It's perfect for a quick fix of "I've finished reading a book" & the inevitable feeling of smug self-satisfaction which results. Just don't expect too much from it.
Unputdownable read! - By: S. Scrivener, 11 Mar 2008
I'm a huge fan of Jeffrey Archer & have read this book in the past & love it. Bought it from Amazon recently & could not put it down. You just have to keep reading it to find out what happens next. It covers alll the emotions, you laugh, you smile, you cry & you get cross, everything you want from a first class read.
brilliant - By: b.lops, 03 Jan 2008
Part of me hates to admit it but this is a fantastic story, read it many years ago & still remember it. When others describe something as a 'cracking read' I think this is what they mean. Good for someone who doesn't read a lot even though it's lengthy, the story is so well told & always interesting.
A modern classic - By: B. J. Madeley, 03 Dec 2007
Considering that I am not normallly a fan of Jeffrey Archer novels, I was amazed & delighted to find that Kane & Abel was one of the greatest books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. This story gripped me from beggining to end.
The novel spans a lifetime, following the main character's from childhood to old age. Two men from very different backgrounds & cultures, both powered by ambition, cunning & intellect, each rises to fame & fortune. They come together to save & destroy each other in an epic tale of passion, hatred & respect.
Overalll I found this to be a book that I could not put down from the moment I read the first line. It is a story that I enjoyed so much I have re-read it on more than one occasion & i'm sure I will again! It is highly recommended.
fantastic story - By: love reading, 03 Nov 2007
I read this book years ago & couldn't put it down. I still remember the story. I would have always said it was one of my alll time favourites even although I know that Archer isn't rated as a writer. I have to say though that I tried to read it recently & didn't like it nearly as well because it is alll a bit far-fetched & unbelievable. Probably a great choice for a young or reluctant reader.
