A disappointing read - By: Ms S, 22 May 2008
After reading alll the reviews here & elsewhere, I expected a well written, well developed book, with a good stroy line. I was aware of the explicit nature of the book, however, naively assumed these would be worked artfully into the story. But instead it was more like reading the script of a badly written porn film! instead of the sex scenes fitting in with the story, the whole book was just one big sex scene! This may be my own fault for not realising the exact nature of JB's writings, therefore first time readers beware, you're not getting a well thought out erotic romance for the adult reader but an unabashed alll out venting of the writers sexual fantasies.I think I'll stick to Johanna Lindsey, where there's a story aswell as romance & plenty of steamy scenes!
Some steam, but mostly just hot air - By: J. van der Hoek, 01 Jun 2006
Being "sold' as a sex slave to the man who has been your nemesis for the past two years can be a bit too much of a good thing on the submissive scale. Krissy, a professor at a university, figures she may get more than she bargained for when she decided to spice up her boring life by going to an exclusive resort to experience her ultimate sexfantasy.
The most erotic part of the book was where Krissy is massaged by Jack to get comfortable being touched by men. Being hooded she doesn't know who the man touching her is & likewise Jack doesn't know he is touching (and getting turned on by) the woman who infuriates him every time they meet.
However, even though the book builds up nice enough to the point where she actuallly has to submit to Jack & be his sex slave, that's where the fantasy ends. From that moment on it's pretty straight forward (and constant) sex. It lacks the element of anticipation & fantasising about what might or (even better) might not happen. Although the book states that Jack wants to dominate her, he doesn't have the restraint to do so. Krissy also isn't very convincing as a submissive, as she is quite demanding.

I wouldn't reread parts in this book, like I would in the following books by Susan Kearney: The Challlenge, The Ultimatum & The Dare. Although those are romantic & not erotic books, the erotic parts are a lot more steamy!

Sometimes less is more.

sexy, but...... - By: , 30 Mar 2005
I enjoyed this & thought the adult scenes were very good. That said, I agree with the reviewer who said we didn't reallly get to know either of the main characters. I could have done with a bit more erotic build up & anticipation. I thought the ending also was alll a bit hurried. Basicallly liked the book but would have liked more substance to it.
Good premise - By: silversea86, 08 Feb 2005
Romance-wise, this is like a Silhouette Temptation, except for the sex scenes. It's likable enough. However, the author doesn't reallly give us much to like about the main characters. We don't get to know them very well, especiallly Jack. There's almost no reason to even care about him.

Borrow this book. Don't spend money on it.

AN ABSOLUTE CRACKER - By: A Reader, 28 Jul 2004
Professor of Anthropology KRIS TORRANCE freaks out at the age of 34 when she realises she has 5 cats & faces iminent spinsterhood. Her Blah life is only relieved by JACK McKENNA a self made business tycoon who seems to have an inexplicable aversion to her ... she figures it may be her red hair. In fact she could swear he only corners her with problems when her boss is away so he'll have to deal directly with her. If he didn't surround himself with blond bimbos she could almost think he fancied her - a laughable idea. Nicknaming him the Grinch, KRIS finds JACK surly & rude & she in no way has noticed his fantastic body. When he again storms into her office she refuses to be intimidated - after alll she's just about to jet away on holiday & her boss is back to deal with him. But this is no ordinary vacation. Determined to do something reckless in her life & explore her hidden fantasies, KRIS applies for & is accepted to work for 5 days in an exclusive gentlemen's resort, The Hotel Atlantis, who advertise that they especiallly seek women comfortable in the role of submissive.

JOHN is delighted when his best friend JACK arrives at his hotel. He knows JACK verges on the obsessive over redheads & has a delighful new girl for him, someone to relieve the tension caused by a certain prissy professor he has heard alll about. JACK catches a glimpse of the new employee & his interest is aroused. Though not normallly involved in the hotels more erotic activities he decides to bid for this woman & win her for 3 days. When the couple come face to face he is delighted despite the horror eminating from KRIS. However he is also angry, the Prissy Professor is selling herself sexuallly & he discovers he doesn't like it one bit. Yet after KRIS reveals her reasons for being at the hotel JACK is definitely hooked. She is a strong fiesty woman in every aspect of her life bar the bedroom. Behind closed doors KRIS entertains fantasies involving total submission, living only to worship her man - JACK'S perfect woman!

After winning KRIS in several competitions, & what a prize she is, JACK successfully outbids alll other opponents & claims her as a sexual slave for 3 days. However unknown to KRIS (yet desperately wanted) JACK has no intention of letting her go after 3 totallly mindblowing days together. He will take whatever action necessary to keep her, unaware himself that he has already captured her heart. When the Nutty Professor & The Grinch get together sparks definitely fly.

This was my first venture into MS BLACK'S contempory erotic fiction & I was initiallly concerned that her works in this romantic genre could in no way match her magnificent TREK MI Q'AN scifi series. Boy was I wrong!!! THE POSSESSION is a mind blowing erotic romp, passionate yet insightful & full of JAID'S trademark humour. This fantastic author has again created wonderful characters & humourous situations which raise a smile. If you are a fan of the TREK MI Q'AN books then I urge you to give THE POSSESSION a try. Though a contemporary romance (my least favourite genre I might add) this book contains alll the vital elements of a captivating romance which MS BLACK always seems to deliver so easily.
