Wow! Read this book... - By: Ms. C. Robertson, 25 Aug 2008
I very nearly alllowed myself to be put off reading The Shack because of the claims by some that it's not scripturallly sound - I'm so glad I took the plunge as the claim is unfounded. I've just finished reading it & will be reading it again & again. I have been challlenged, moved & convicted by this wonderful story. I also laughed out loud at the 'God listens to funk' line (see page 90) As someone who loves funk music that's reallly encouraging : - )
What can I say - get it read it & be prepared to be blown away : - )
Brilliant read - By: R. Browne, 13 Aug 2008
THe most though provoking book I have read in a long time. Whether you have a faith or not this book leaves you thinking days after you finish it. It's an original slant on the age old questions of whether God exists - & in what form & how to balance the good vs evil quandry. My best piece of advice is don't read it on the train if you are a weepy.
Mawkish Christianity - By: R. E. Holmes, 05 Aug 2008
This book is good at putting across the Christian answers to the problem of evil, & putting the issue in the context of a readable story. Unfortunately (but, I would say, inevitably) those answers are pretty shalllow & the deeper questions are left untouched. I also found the book to be cloyingly sentimental.
If you object to being preached at, you're not going to like it. Likewise, if you don't relish the prospect of wading through treacly descriptions of the members of the Trinity chuckling together, keep away.
However, if you are a Christian, sympathetic to Christianity or just want to get a grip on how Christians try to square the notion of an omnipotent & omnibenevolent God with the existence of suffering, this is a nice read. Just don't expect it to answer the harder questions about suffering: the only answer it suggests for the toughies is, effectively, to stop asking them.
The Shack - By: A. Orchard, 28 Jul 2008
I have found this book both compelling & insightful of the way God loves us. It may be fiction but it is the only book that I have read & and am about to reread. I do not usuallly read Christian fiction, but was recommended this book. The story is about a normal father who's child was taken from him during a camping trip & God helped him to see how much he cared & loved him even though he blamed him for what had happened. If you do not want to be touched by God then do not read it.The Shack
Relationship - By: Jrg Self, 23 Jul 2008
The Shack is a beautiful, painful, heart-rendering story about how God feels, how He loves to love, how He hurts more when bad things happen than we can ever realise, & how He created us for one purpose - relationship. I don't generallly read Christian fiction because it seems to be so 'end-times' based but halfway through this book, I actuallly felt as if I had stopped reading & instead God was speaking to me. It's a masterpiece. Ignore any comments about it being theologicallly incorrect. Instead, celebrate this book for what it is - a story of how God loves us, YOU, me, & how He created us to be in relationship with Him.
