very informative - By: subslut, 14 Nov 2007
This book is the bible of alll novice BDSM players. It goes into alll aspects of the 'game' & explains the sentiments & desires behind it. The random quotes are very amusing & realistic. One part of the book is geared towards meeting like personalities & the places suggested are in the US.
This book is a must for people new to BDSM & BDSM lifestyles & have questions that they don't dare ask.....
SM or H&S? - By: Liz, 08 Nov 2007
This was quite an informative book for the beginner in BDSM practice, & was particularly useful in slave training if that is your area of interest. Although safety is paramount in alll activities (safe, sane & consensual, right?), there were times when it became a bit like reading a health & safety manual instead of a new erotic discovery. For example, hot wax uses candles that are a potential fire risk..... no kidding Sherlock?

There are little sayings on each page that describe various fantasies & particular kinks, which were quite delicious however!!! Altogether a useful read but at times a bit overly cautious.

SM101 - By: , 15 Mar 2004
This was a great introduction to BDSM, everything from safety, to bondage, scenes, headspace, how to get started & whips of course. Good explination of terms etc. I couldnt put this book down untill i had finished it & it left me wanting to put theory to practice.

Highly recomended to any novices out there, wanting to have a go

Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin! - By: , 08 Jun 2003
The strapline for the book says 'a realistic introduction...' & that's exactly what you get.

As a newcomer to BDSM, I was looking for something to give me an introduction to the scene. I had visited several websites' discussion pages, but found the things there a bit cliquey & not very helpful.

SM101, on the other hand, was extremely useful. The book assumes no prior knowledge of S & M, but takes the reader through the principles of playing, how to play safely, use of safewords & contracts. It then goes on to look at some of the techniques used, such as whipping, ropework, blindfolds & gags, & tells you how to improvise some equipment yourself. It has lots of ideas for scenes, & also tells you how to find like-minded people in your area.

The writing style is relaxed, honest & friendly, & throughout the book there are amusing quotes from people in the BDSM community, which help give it a down to earth quality - it's not at alll voyeuristic or pervy - although I'm not sure I'd leave it on the coffee table!

The only drawback is that, with it being an American book, many of the contacts & suppliers are unavailable here - though there are of course web addresses & links too.

All in alll, an extremely good introduction to the BDSM lifestlye. I found it a real confidence boost... & it gave me several ideas to try!

Can't wait to get home with this book! - By: , 23 Sep 2002
Just had this delivered to the office & it looks brilliant.

From a few sneaky flicks through, it seems it will be of so much use to either someone taking their first steps into BDSM, or someone looking to expand their knowledge (as I am).

fun & poignant quotes accompany the main texton each page & I am looking forward to getting home with this book to read from cover to cover (and to glean lots of lovely ideas!)
